To not pay anything to breakfast club until they sort this?

DCs go to breakfast club at school 4 days a week. DS2 is in the same class as the child of the owner of the club (it's external rather than organised by school).

Because they changed their booking system over the summer (switched from paying in arrears to advance) I found myself short. I spoke to them and got a month's grace to straighten things out. I did so and messaged the owner in November to check I was completely up to date with payments and she confirmed I was.

Two weeks ago I got a message from them saying that I still owed them nearly £500 from September & I needed to pay it ASAP. I checked my bank and queried it. They then confirmed that they had tracked down the payment. No apology or anything for their mistake.

I logged on 2 weeks ago to pay this month's balance and have found that they're charging me an extra £200+ for November despite their own system showing this as paid in November. I've e-mailed them querying this but as yet haven't had a reply.

AIBU to not pay anything until they sort out their records? I'm going through all kinds of life stresses at the moment and could really do without having to double check everything constantly.

What a pain! Can you work out how much the invoice should be and just pay that amount?

hauntedvagina · 25/02/2020 20:23

I wouldn't pay anything that you don't think you should. If you're sure you've got your sums right, sit down and make a spreadsheet of all the payments you've made and where they should have allocated them to. This should clear things up once and for all.

I had to do this for a landlord once who'd misallocated a rent payment.

Such a nightmare and so annoying!!! I wouldn’t pay either till it’s left right!!!

If you want to keep your child in breakfast club then you need to be paying 2hat you owe for next months childcare. I would ug ore the arrears part and just keep emailing them every few days until you get a response.

Waveysnail · 25/02/2020 20:27

Ug ore = ignore

I wouldn't stop paying altogether if you want to continue to use the service. At the end of the day its them that are claiming they are owed so it's in their interests to get it sorted out.

Can you not just work out how much you owe and pay that?
I think not paying anything is the wrong way to go about it.

My nursery/afterschool provision did this once and sent me a message saying we owed £2000. I went into a panic. We had been paying the set amount each month as we always did and didnt realise it wasnt quite enough. They then switched from arrears to ahead and that, combined with the fact that they had let us fall behind (but not told us we were under paying) lead to the huge bill. I communicated by email getting everything in writing, then offered them a payment arrangement that would clear the debt in 4 months. They agreed to it, but then sent me an email a couple of months later asking for a payment as we were behind. I forwarded them the agreement of our payment arrangement and they responded with an 'oh yeah, of course. No worries.' It really panicked and upset me both times. Get everything agreed in writing via email, then just email the agreement the next time they request more money.

You would be unreasonable not to pay anything, pay what you know you owe and leave them to sort out their billing problems
