Hi all,

So I give Dd a bath every other day. I change her vest top then unless she has wetted it/dirtied it. I also change her PJs then unless they’re dirty. Because realistically she wear a sleeping bag over it and that also gets washed once a week with the rest of her bedding unless it got wet/dirty.

I put on a new outfit every morning but I don’t put on a new vest top. Also the inner layers which are for warmth in this cold weather don’t get changed unless they’re dirty. Usually after two or 3 uses.

Bare in mind my baby has bibs on so she doesn’t get wet from spit/milk except occasionally in which case yes I change everything.

I wonder whether this is unhygienic and why? I prefer less laundry unless it’s a hygiene issue

Be gentle plz

Whenever baby’s got it wet/dirty. You don’t say how old your child is? My 3mo can go through three changes in three hours, or an outfit can last 48+hs (unlikely!), so I change according to need.

WeirdMoments · 25/02/2020 14:11

It’s a 4 months old

Don’t see the issue, if she’s not smelly then you’re good to go!

Bitofnamechanging · 25/02/2020 14:15

Ds1 used to have a new outfit about twenty million times a day as he had reflux. Ds2 would often wear a grow for a couple of days. I basically just changed them when they got dirty.

I now have two preschoolers and they have about three pairs of pants and trousers a day as they aren't reliably dry and 1 or 2 tops a day - and I don't change them at the smallest hint of dirt. Mine are massive dirt magnets

Camomila · 25/02/2020 14:48

DS2 is 4 weeks, I usually change his vests and baby grows every 2 days unless he wees/poos on them. He rarely dribbles tbh.
He's more likely to have biscuit crumbs dropped on him Grin

Megan2018 · 25/02/2020 14:51

New vest every morning, another clean one for bed usually too. Clean sleepsuit every night, clean outfit every day. Cardigans get several wears though. I have lots of cheap vests and I do just one load of baby washing per week.

I do think a clean vest and whatever they sleep in daily is necessary. Why skimp?

Megan2018 · 25/02/2020 14:53

Meant to say, I usually spill food on her and she’s almost always sick through a bib at some point in the day.

We start weaning in a few weeks, I imagine things are only going to get messier!

I only bath 1-2 times a week though as so bad for their skin.

ReverseGiraffe · 25/02/2020 14:55

Clean outfit in the morning, sometimes a change throughout the day depending how filthy he is, clean sleepsuit/PJs at bedtime. DS is 19 months though so is generally very grubby. Though he would never have gotten multiple uses out of a vest at 4 months. You must have a very tidy baby (or my 2 have just been exceptionally damp/smelly/grubby Grin )

june2007 · 25/02/2020 14:56

I think this may also depend on your washing facilities. If you don,t have acess to good washing or drying you may try to make items last the beitlonger.

reluctantbrit · 25/02/2020 14:56

Vest daily as I think they smell after a day directly next to the nappies.

Nightwear - depends. If it was just a sleepsuit/vest - daily, if she had pyjama bottoms/top then once a week with the rest.

Top had to be changed daily, she was cup fed after 6 months and needed one, between 4-6 she dribbled like a water leak. Bottoms - depending on dirt/stain.

Ineedcoffee2345 · 25/02/2020 15:15

Morning clean vest and outfit
Evening clean vest and sleepsuit
Alot of the time she needs changed during day also (14 weeks old)
Toddler dd. Clean vest and pants and outfit in morning. Then clean vest pants and pj's at night.
Hence why I've always alot of washing to do

Nowayorhighway · 25/02/2020 15:18

Clean outfit every morning because he wears a sleepsuit to bed, I’ve never really bothered with vests. Clean sleepsuit every night as well, he doesn’t wet through but find it smells like faint pee in the morning. He sometimes needs his outfit changing during the day if he spills food on himself or whatever. He’s almost 16 months.

WeirdMoments · 25/02/2020 15:26

Nowayorhighway

Do u take off the vest from the daytime before putting sleep suit on? That might work better for me actually.

New vest every day, 2 if one gets dirty. Tops and trousers get maximum 3 wears, but usually will get dirty enough on the first day to head for the wash at night, there was a phase when we were getting through two outfits per day but that's rare now except when he's got drenched in a puddle or there's been a bib error. Bibs and socks after one wear, maybe two if there are no marks but that's rare. Pyjamas 3 nights max.

MRex · 25/02/2020 15:40

We usually change his vest at night when he's getting into pyjamas.

Lllot5 · 25/02/2020 15:46

Clean vest clean outfit every day. Clean vest clean baby gro every night.
The clothes a four month old wears are tiny, you’d have a job filling the machine up every few days.
What nappies do you use?

WeirdMoments · 25/02/2020 15:51

I use Aldi nappies and to be fair I’m combining baby clothing with our clothing all in one go.

Is that terrible ? My clothes get dirty equally as quickly and fill up quite fast.

Leaky breasts, baby sick and spit... and just general outdoors.

(I have a toddler too, which is another story.

If baby is clean, not smelly and happy, a vest will last as long as it lasts, do what is right for you and baby.

Fuzzyspringroll · 25/02/2020 16:10

Generally, I put fresh clothes on DS daily. He's 3 now but got at least changed daily when he was a baby as well. Clothes didn't generally stay clean/dry for that long, though, so he got changed a lot more often when he was little.
I put fresh underwear on daily, too. Not sure why you'd keep those layers on for longer that are closer to the skin and have to deal with sweat and possible little dribbles.

TheJoxter · 25/02/2020 16:12

My toddler wears the same vest every day BUT it’s merino wool so I just take it off and air it overnight and is good to go again the next day, only gets washed if it’s visibly dirty

PrayingandHoping · 25/02/2020 16:16

4 month old bathed 3 times a week. Clean vest morning and night and clean outfit am and pjs pm. Sleeping bag lasts a few days usually, but it just depends whether she spits up on it

Hugtheduggee · 25/02/2020 16:20

Baby:clean vest and babygrow for bed. Outfit in the morning, I may keep the vest from the previous night on. Occasional outfit changes during the day because if weaning mess, burns pretty tidy baby overall.

Toddler: clean vest and pants every morning, sometimes keep the vest on at night and PJ's, usually for 1-2 days. More because I forget and out them in the wash, than by choice.

She gets a different outfit on every day, but often it might be on its second wear because despite being an active toddler, she seems to repel dirt. She can even eat tomato pasta wearing a white top, and it be spotless the next day. Very strange. I couldn't do it lol.

neverornow · 25/02/2020 16:25

We do pretty much the same here with our 5 m/o. Unless her vest is wet or dirty i don't bother changing it. I'll often get 2-3 nights of the same PJ's as well.

We also have a toddler so the amount washing can get a bit crazy!

emwithme · 25/02/2020 16:25

When DD was under 6 months, it was a clean vest and onesie/babygrow/sleepsuit daily or when it had been puked/pooed/my food dropped on, so some days we got through half a dozen outfits, others only one.

Now she's 15 months, it's a clean vest once a day, clean outfit each morning, clean PJs/sleepsuit at night, unless she gets hideously messy or wet in which case she gets changed as appropriate. Sleeping bag and cot sheet get changed weekly unless they need doing (sick/snot/poosplosion) earlier.

PointOfTipping · 25/02/2020 16:38

DD is one. Fresh everything every morning, usually a change of top during the day from dribbling. Possibly a change of trousers. Fresh pyjamas and vest every night. Change her bedding once a week unless she has a cold or it's got wet then it's every day.
