To think Admin staff are always taken for granted?

I work as Admin for the NHS and Normally I love my job but just recently it's all been seriously stressful.
We've been short staffed for over 6 months, i work part time and as much as i am trying to cope with everything I'm just exhausted.
My manager and my service manager (I report to both) have different ideas about stuff and I feel like I'm constantly getting thrown under the bus from one or the other.
They both earn significantly more than me and I have told both of them numerous times that I'm struggling but still mo help comes forward.
Do other people feel this way? It always feel like Admin are just supposed to prop everything up and keep things going even though we're the lowest paid!!

NHS HCP here. I hugely value admin and I really hope that comes across in my day to day job. I think in general though, you are absolutely right. You are not valued anywhere near as much as you should be, especially by the general public.

YANBU OP. I also work in NHS as admin staff and the shitwork we get from some of those above is ridiculous. Then if we complain our manager sides with the ones above making the ridiculous request.

A colleague always describes herself as 'I'm just an administrator' and it really annoys me. We do valuable work, without which those above wouldn't be able to do theirs.

Medical secretaries being downgraded and made redundant by outsourcing audio typing to the Philippines and India, it’ll all be digital soon. No need for typing.

Why do people always assume that medical secretaries spend their days typing? Confused

Most of the time we are liaising between consultants/GPs,/patients/carers/pharmacy/social workers/nursing staff/patients' relatives etc. Typing is barely 10% of the day.

I’m classed as admin because they can pay piss poor wages that way.
I actually write specification and put together formulations of specific items. If they paid me for that it would be twice the pay. I did tackle them over it once and got my departmental director absolutely foul with me refusing to accept what I actually do......then the next day when walking somebody round said ‘And this if Fos, she puts your stuff together for the clients for us to quote on....’

@thenightsky so true, everyone gets confused when i say I don’t type letters Grin i would love to spend a few hours doing non stressful audio typing, its quite relaxing compared to my usual tasks!!!

thenightsky - I used to be a med sec. 80% of my day was audio! I’ve worked in 4 different Trusts and it’s all been the same. They were outsourcing some typing then to clear huge backlogs, I am reliably informed that digital dictation is becoming more common.
