To expect enough loo roll in an AirBnB?

SpinningTooFastWantToGetOff · 24/02/2020 07:45

Four of us staying in an Airbnb for 6 nights - only 1 and 1/2 small flimsy loll rolls provided.
Should we ask for more or buy our own?

If it's nasty cheap stuff, replace immediately

We learnt the hard way not to do that in Spain and the Canaries as it can block the plumbing. We used to buy nice toilet rolls, like we did at home, and the toilet always blocked, so after a couple of occurences, we realised that cheap and thin was the way to go.

adaline · 24/02/2020 08:29

For self-catering, enough for the first one or two nights is standard, then you buy your own.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/02/2020 08:39

IMO they’re only obliged to provide enough for fairly immediate needs, though more is always nice.

Dh and I once stayed at a SC place where there were 2 loos - and no paper at all! And I was bursting for the loo. Dh was swiftly sent on an emergency mission to buy some - luckily there was a shop close by.

Yes, I did complain. Presumably it was an oversight and not deliberate - we’d never had such a thing with the same letting agency before. Still unacceptable though.
But I always take some now, just in case.

Sparklingbrook · 24/02/2020 08:40

This was my experience of SC in UK @BarbaraofSeville, I don't think I have ever bought any abroad. I remember in Corfu you couldn't put even loo paper down the loo and it had to go in the bin because their pipes were not good.

A v posh SC I stayed in had an endless supply of Andrex with Shea Butter. That was replaced immediately, as that stuff makes you itchy. Grin

Sparklingbrook · 24/02/2020 08:42

Am I the only person who always has tissues on them in case of loo paper emergencies?

peachypetite · 24/02/2020 08:43

It’s not a hotel.

Figgygal · 24/02/2020 08:44

Nope I would expect some when I was there arriving but otherwise I will be getting my own

fussychica · 24/02/2020 08:45

One and a spare for each loo in the property is preferable but one roll per loo is probably more common.
Hosts who just leave the remains of a role from the previous guests are just tight arsedGrin

SirGawain · 24/02/2020 08:53

i cannot believe that people can get worked up about this.

Rezie · 24/02/2020 08:54

I would expect loo roll to be provided for the whole stay even in self catering. But I wouldn't have a problem with buying my own.

Wotrewelookinat · 24/02/2020 09:05

We’ve always bought our own at Airbnbs 🤷‍♀️

Woeismethischristmas · 24/02/2020 09:08

I own a holiday cottage and always leave spare roll in every bathroom plus extra in the utility, cushelle extra thick. My rule of thumb is a spare loo roll for every day of stay. Also make sure to leave enough dishwasher tabs, kitchen roll, nice method spray. With the odd exception guests leave the place tidy and cleaner ready. Why you'd annoy your guests by failing to provide loo roll is beyond me.

Notso · 24/02/2020 09:12

I've only stayed in one place that was stingy with the loo roll and mentioned it in the review otherwise it's always been provided. Who wants to take loo roll on holiday?

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 24/02/2020 09:12

YANBU

I have always found enough basic supplies of everything even if I stayed for a week or 2, toilet rolls, washing powder, dish washer tablets etc.

jillandhersprite · 24/02/2020 09:16

it all depends on the type of airbnb - we stay in them all the time and have a lot of experience. A cheap one - wouldn't expect much more than 1 or 2, similarly they rarely provide any 'nice extras' or touches like stocked fridge with a few drinks/basics, and the bare minimum on linens/towels. A 'nice one', where hosts have often achieved a 'superhost' status - then these are usually like a proper hotel and will have more than enough of everything - plenty of loo roll, delicious food and drink treats, loads of soft fluffy towels, etc.
I can now usually tell well before arrival what we will get based on the quality of photos on their page, the info they give, the facilities they have ticked to say they provide, all well before reading the actual reviews. After a while you get the hang of the site if you use it often enough...

StealthPolarBear · 24/02/2020 09:28

I'm a suoerhost because I have had more than ten (I think) stays, my place is still a budget cottage.
I leave two. But tbh the spares are kept in the cupboard under the stairs and I'd not mind if they helped themselves to more. I also leave shower gel and hand soap.

SoloMummy · 24/02/2020 09:29

It's self catering, be grateful there was any!

Waveysnail · 24/02/2020 09:30

I'd expect 1/2 rolls in an air bb.

Geoffreythecat · 24/02/2020 09:38

This wouldn't bother me - some places leave plenty, some just a roll or two. Entirely normal. We've just stayed somewhere which was pretty expensive but had no cleaning products at all. There was washing up liquid, 2 dishwasher tablets, half a crumbly washing machine tablet, but nothing to clean the kitchen or bathroom/loo. I've never come across that before, has anyone else?

redwinefine · 24/02/2020 09:40

YABU. It's self catering. Of course you should buy your own!!

Woeismethischristmas · 24/02/2020 12:53

I think we stayed in the same place Geoffrey, no cloths and one sad budget scouring sponge and a note in the guest book to leave as you find it?

GinDrinker00 · 24/02/2020 12:59

It’s an Air B&B, not the ritz. Be glad they left you any at all. Wink

SpinningTooFastWantToGetOff · 24/02/2020 15:47

Interesting replies, thanks all.
I only ask as some in our group think there should be enough for the week and others don't.
It is an expensive stay, tho not luxury by any standard.
The coffee machine filter compartment was full of mould where the used filter had not been thrown away - and it must have been there some time. I had to make up my own bed even though they knew there were 4 'guests'. Bedroom clearly not been swept. Bathroom door doesn't lock.
TV doesn't work,
Loo roll least of our worries I know! Grin

Oh yes, and charged £100 for cleaning!

lastburritos · 24/02/2020 15:51

The last one I stayed in didnt even provide bedding for the second bedroom! I said we'd be using both rooms when I booked it and the host was a bit pissed off when I messaged asking where the second set of bedding was. I was told I'd have to rough it that night! She begrudgingly dropped it round the next day, screwed up in a plastic bag left outside the front door 😂😂
