To expect the new dishwasher to fit dinner plates?

Arrrghhh.

Bought a new slimline dishwasher after the old one died. Went for a Swan SDWB75120.

I hate everything about it. The spinney thing on the second "level" doesn't spin and makes a horrendous noise because it is bashing off the normal sized dinner plates on the bottom "level"... It barely fits anything in despite apparently being the same size as the old one and the different settings are just nonsense. Also it doesn't quite fit properly and we may have to cut the plinth down even though, as I said, it was the exact same size as the old one.

I want to return it but is the above enough reason? Plus, the top of it got slightly scratched during fitting so I'm not sure if they will accept it back.

Any advice?

Yes our new one had three shelves but the middle one is adjustable

Had to look on YouTube for the variations in using it as it wasn't clear from the manual

Doesn't anyone ever read the user guide??? LOL Shock

No red Blush I didn't realise it was something that could be done so I never looked. Also as it was like it when we moved in we presumed that was just what it was like.

I adjust mine often. If we've had people over it will get a run with low things on the bottom like small pans or mixing bowls and tall things like wine glasses on top, then another run with small things on the top like mugs and big dinner plates below.

listsandbudgets · 23/02/2020 18:32

We had the same until someone suggested I try adjusting the top shelf. It made a huge difference

Mine is a Bosch and it's a pain, you can either have the middle rack up to fit the dinner plates or down to fit pint glasses, I'm never buying one with a cutlery tray instead of a rack again. Doesn't clean the cutlery properly either.

PrincessSloth · 23/02/2020 18:35

OK do it turns out you CAN lift the 2nd rack so now the plates fit.

Except now the glasses don't fit... So that's slightly less annoying but still QUITE IRRITATING.

I put pint glasses on the bottom with the plates. I decide top vs bottom for each thing based on height.

I'm so glad (a) I can now stand my plates up instead of sort of lying them at 45° angle and (b) I'm not the only person out there who didn't realise the top tray was adjustable! I'm so pleased I've messaged my son who is travelling in SE Asia!

Thanks for asking the question OP; I've just adjusted the top shelf of the dishwasher and now the dinner plates fit.
