Another never drinking again thread

Last weekend I went out with friends and had way way too much gin. Couldn't stop being sick the next day, it was a proper day-written-off hangover.

Last night dp and I had a few glasses of wine with a film and while I'm not hungover today I still feel tired and sluggish. Im so over feeling like this! Im mid 30s and I think I need to accept that my body can't metabolise alcohol like it once could because I genuinely feel rotten every time I have more than a glass of wine.

Definitely going to have a little break. I feel so much healthier, motivated and mentally better without alcohol. Anyone else?

I’ve not been drinking due to pregnancy and breastfeeding and it’s so much better! I am in a horrendous run of illness which reminds me what it’s like to be hungover just in case I forget! I much prefer a fresh head Smile

Also love your username Grin

I'm the same. I can go out and drink the same as friends, who are slightly hungover the next day while I can be vomitting for 24hrs.
Even a couple of glasses of wine leaves me with an all day headache.
It's so annoying and you get no sympathy because people assume I've gone crazy and drank a ridiculous amount. I've lost so many days over my life with hangovers.
I do find if I have vodka im much less likely to feel shit but for now I'm off it .

Don't get me wrong, when I'm out for a big night I sort of expect a hangover the next day. But it's getting where I can't even have a sensible few at home without feeling at least some effects the next day. Today I feel really lethargic and tired. Just cant be bothered to do anything which doesn't bode well with a Sunday lunch to cook and kids to take swimming

Whereas yesterday I woke up feeling really motivated and ready to get shit done. Went to the gym, long dog walk, blitzed the house and did stuff with the kids. It's a no brainer really...

I've woken up hungover, not horrendous but it's more how tired i am and how I will be all week, I feel fine after a bottle of wine but like you say it's the horrible sluggish feeling I'm getting really bored of, going to make an effort to cut back!

Weebitawks · 23/02/2020 10:17

I know what you mean but then the sentence "a few glasses of wine while watching a film" just sounds so nice.

PonderTweek · 23/02/2020 10:24

Ooh I know the feeling! I never get drunk anymore because I don't really get the opportunity to, but occasionally I have a whisky or a glass of wine at home on a Friday night. If I top up my glass I end up with the annoying sluggish feeling and I hate it. I seem to be ok on one drink, so I think I'll stick to that even though I'm often left wanting another one. Grin

I increasingly feel I want to prioritise the times when I drink if that makes sense.

Don’t want to totally give up booze - every once in a what blowout is good for the soul - and like sometimes to have a nice glass of wine or two without going mad.

But I don’t want drinking to be an everyday thing as I feel so much better when I don’t do it. Enjoy having a clear head in the morning. I also don’t want to booze just because everyone else is doing it... I am getting much better at not drinking just by default.

happinessischocolate · 23/02/2020 10:58

Stop drinking wine and gin, they'll always give you a hangover, wine makes me vomit the following day. Vodka is the drink if you want to avoid hangovers. I had loads of vodka last night and am a little tired today but have enjoyed a full fry up and beach walk.

It's definitely not just you OP. Since turning 40 last year I've increasingly found that I just can't seem to metabolize it in the same way - feel so sick and anxious the next day, and that's not even after that much. I did dry January and felt so good! It was so much easier to stick to my exercise and diet goals too. Seriously considering cutting it out again.
