To set an alarm for 4.30am and not get up

chellochello · 23/02/2020 05:37

Is it unreasonable to set an alarm for half four on a Sunday morning then snooze it for half an hour before getting up when there is a person in bed beside you that does not need or want to be up at half 4 on a Sunday morning??

Of course.

redcarbluecar · 23/02/2020 05:45

Yes that’s inconsiderate I’d say

Fochit · 23/02/2020 05:46

Depends if the person who set the alarm has to be up

Fochit · 23/02/2020 05:47

The fight?

BoomBoomsCousin · 23/02/2020 05:47

Yes.

LunasOrchid · 23/02/2020 05:48

YANBU my DH and I do this every morning. We're used to it now, so we easily fall straight back asleep. My alarm went at 4.45am and 5.15am.

YABU however if it wakes your husband up and he can't get back to sleep.

JonnyPocketRocket · 23/02/2020 05:50

I've never understood the point of snoozing an alarm tbh. You set it half an hour early deliberately, to ensure that instead of getting as much proper sleep as you can, you spend the last 30 minutes of it in crap, light, interrupted sleep Confused If my DH did this utterly pointless thing at 4.30 on a Sunday I'd want to knock his block off.

chellochello · 23/02/2020 05:53

@Fochit yes for the fight

I'm still awake now and it's probably over

As someone who sets alarms for sporting events (haven't missed an Australian Grand Prix in years) I would always make sure I jump up immediately so as not to disturb my partner if he's decided not to watch it.

My partner on the other hand decides he wants to start work really early, sets an alarm for 5 and then snoozes it for an hour. We've had a few blazing rows about it (especially as I'm pregnant and have trouble getting back to sleep at the moment).

Xiaoxiong · 23/02/2020 06:56

Yes he's being completely U. I set an alarm at 6.27 this morning for an Ocado delivery, and the moment it buzzed I turned it straight off and went downstairs to wait so DH could go back to sleep. Common courtesy I would think.

Nancydrawn · 23/02/2020 06:58

Yup--super over. (Has been for about an hour.)

It's a dick thing to do, OP. If one wishes to wake for a sporting event (or, say, the Oscars, if one lives wherever that shows at 4.30 am), you sleep on the couch or in a spare room so as not to wake your partner.

He's lucky you didn't turn off the snooze button and have him miss the second blast.

Bad form on his part.

LangSpartacusCleg · 23/02/2020 07:04

That has already been debated in this household. It is hugely unreasonable and grounds for divorce or a new patio.

Fochit · 23/02/2020 07:04

I must admit this wouldn’t bother me.
Is it an accumulation of numerous other things he does that are thoughtless?

You do know that they never give an exact time for the fight to start? He probably guessed and then looked online for updates.

DesLynamsMoustache · 23/02/2020 07:09

DH sometimes gets up super early for F1, but I'd rip him a new one if he was snoozing alarms at that time of the morning and keeping me awake! He gets up instantly and leaves the room.

Vulpine · 23/02/2020 07:18

Yes v unreasonable

HelloDulling · 23/02/2020 07:20

Unbelievably selfish.

Fi1982 · 23/02/2020 07:31

Why didn’t he just sleep on the couch??

okiedokieme · 23/02/2020 07:35

For a sporting event, vvu, for work it's ok for 10-15 mins

TomeOfSomething · 23/02/2020 07:38

I use my fitbit for this kind of wake up, buzzes on my wrist, doesn't disturb dh

JinglingHellsBells · 23/02/2020 07:48

Yes very unreasonable.

If someone wants to get up in the middle of the night , and use an alarm and not wake their partner, they need to sleep in a separate room.

shudup · 23/02/2020 07:49

Who won the fight?

He's very inconsiderate.

RubyWho · 23/02/2020 07:54

My husband does this. Sets an alarm for 3:45am and snoozes it until 4:30. He leaves the house at 5:30.
This means every week night for a year I’ve woken up at 3:45am and struggled to get back to sleep. I don’t need to be up until 7.

I’m not kidding when I say I consider this legitimate grounds for a divorce.

Aridane · 23/02/2020 10:31

Of course unreasonable and a shitty thing to do

Kaykay066 · 23/02/2020 10:39

For work it wouldn’t bother me except the snooze part but getting up to watch nonsense on telly I would be annoyed at being disturbed bad enough my 8 year old had a very upset tummy and wet the bed @3.30am this morning so am quite tired although he is sound asleep still lucky boy
