I’ve currently got the implant but it’s driving me potty. I have a stoma & apparently can’t take the pill with it because of the potential of not absorbing it properly 🤨 despite being here, I’m childless & wanting to avoid coils for that reason.

Halp me

Why is it driving you potty? How long have you had it? I've got an implant - it's actually due out as been in 3 years but as i don't have periods on it and I don't want a new one it's staying in for now!

Bubblemonkey · 22/02/2020 22:27

Had it changed in November, been on pretty much ever since, @relax2. Had about 10 days without some form of bleeding.

PotholeParadise · 22/02/2020 22:27

Copper coil. Made my periods a lot heavier, and was torturous to put in, but it's non-hormonal. Swings and roundabouts, eh?

relax2 · 22/02/2020 22:28

So is it new or did you have one before? My friend has that issue and has to take a pill too so it stops the bleeding which i agree is a right pain!

Bubblemonkey · 22/02/2020 22:30

It’s my third I’ve had @relax2 🙊 last one was a fairly long but light period every 6-7 months which was annoying, but better than constantly bleeding fairly heavily. Was given the pill which did nothing but worsen the bellyache.

Did your periods eventually settle @PotholeParadise?

MrsBungle · 22/02/2020 22:30

I’ve got the mirena coil. Virtually no period. It’s great.

LateKate · 22/02/2020 22:31

I have had a partial right hemicolectomy and therefore can't rely on the pill anymore for the same reason. My practise nurse is most keen on me having a coil which I really don't want. She seems to feel the injection would work, however she wants me to loose weight first (too many months of steroids, a rubbish diet and awful fatigue make this easier said than done though).

ClientQueen · 22/02/2020 22:31

Copper coil, on number 3, I don't have children. Don't get on with hormones so it works perfectly for me

Farcry66 · 22/02/2020 22:31

I have the injection, with no problems. Was going forthe implant but the doctor who fits them left the surgery. I was a bit concerned about the massive levels of hormones but as I didn't have a negative reaction to the pill (was just rubbish at taking them) is thought I'd give it a go. Seems to be working, not had a period for a year and no massive mood changes apart from for the first couple of days after the injection.

Singlebutmarried · 22/02/2020 22:32

Mirena coil.

No periods. But I think it’s messed with my libido and my MH

Can’t get it removed as it’s the only
Thing that stops my periods (I pass out with them)

bluebluezoo · 22/02/2020 22:33

I’m childless & wanting to avoid coils for that reason

?. You can have a coil fitted if you’ve not had children. The only reason to avoid is if you’re planning children in the near future.

Your other choices then would be condoms. There’s the injection but you’d risk similar side effects to the implant?

I can’t tolerate hormones at all so my choices are condoms or coil. Or going old school
I suppose there’s the diapragm or cap...

Avocado2020 · 22/02/2020 22:33

I went on the EVRA patch - Worked for 4.5 years for me, you just switch it over every 7 days! Was perfect!

Bubblemonkey · 22/02/2020 22:35

It’s meant to be awful getting it in if you’re childless & im a wuss @bluebluezoo 😜

OP posts:
ClientQueen · 22/02/2020 22:40

@Bubblemonkey I'm also a complete wimp. It was fine, and I didn't even have the anaesthetic injection, just some local gel
The only thing was on the last one I went faint/sick but they said it was a normal reaction to having my cervix touched. So I hung my head off the bed under a fan for a bit! Even with that I was only in there 20 mins, the actual fitting is probably under a minute - keep cervix steady, measure womb, insert coil, snip strings. They managed to fit a 10 year one this time

AnneLovesGilbert · 22/02/2020 22:42

Condoms.

PotholeParadise · 22/02/2020 22:43

Did your periods eventually settle

Well, yes, and no. They've not gone back to the way they were before, but they're consistent and I mostly don't get cramps. They're basically like my periods used to be, except that I have replaced my regular absorbancy tampons with super/super plus and super has been replaced with super plus extra.

undercoveraessedai · 22/02/2020 22:46

Injection (depo provera). Been on it coming up 18 years and it's the best thing I've ever done - no periods since age 16! Buuuut I knew then I didn't ever want children, although they say it's a long term contraceptive, they seem to mean a couple of years not most of your life, and I'm not sure if there is any impact on fertility after such long term use.

Only side effect I've experienced is weight gain but I've always been plump so happy with that!

Tumbledryer1 · 22/02/2020 22:48

I’ve been on most different types over the years, implant, pill, coil, injection and I’m now sterilised so don’t have to think about it

Davincitoad · 22/02/2020 22:48

None. 36 and married. Endo. Noriday made me ill. Pretty sure I’m pre menopausal with current symptoms.

datasgingercatspot · 22/02/2020 22:49

Why can't you have the patch or NuvaRing? The injection is well known for causing weight gain.

They hard sell the coil here like no one's business but if you drives you potty or you don't get on with it they are hesitant to remove it.

ViciousJackdaw · 22/02/2020 22:49

I won't say it was a doddle but to me, getting a copper coil inserted was similar to a smear test in a way - it did feel vaguely periody for about 30 seconds and I needed a liner for the rest of the day but it was over quickly. No DC either.

Electrical · 22/02/2020 22:56

The pill, without the unnecessary hormone withdrawal bleed. I take it to stop bleeding of any kind, and to never conceive. GP was pushing me to get the implant, am undecided, because I will not accept periods, and am childfree, so I will not be impregnated, and the pill seems more ‘in my control’ somehow, despite running the gauntlet of my digestive tract. Wouldn’t consider an iud, the prising open of my cervix to put it in + risk of it being out of place and therefore impregnated+ ris of non stop bleeding= ab.so.fucking.lutely NO.

YappityYapYap · 22/02/2020 22:58

I was on the depo but came off of it after a year on it because of the awful weight gain! I was constantly starving

PhoneLock · 22/02/2020 22:59

I have the implant too. Apart from completely random periods, I have no other side effects. I weigh less than I ever have since I was a teenager.

Tried the mirena. It was awful.

I had the depo for years and it suited me perfectly. No periods at all. Unfortunately, there seems to be a time limit so I can't have it any more. Pity.

RainMinusBow · 22/02/2020 23:02

Was on the POP for years. Took it religiously but still fell pregnant at 38! No idea what we're going to do re contraception after this baby because I don't trust the pill, that's for sure!
