To even consider this...

My OH has a big birthday coming up and he is a real plane enthusiast. I have found u can fly in a spitfire for just under 3k.

I think he would love it but we haven’t got loads of spare cash at the moment...although I have some shares I could sell that I don’t really notice having.

It is probably a once in a lifetime experience that he’d love but is it worth the money for 20 mins flight time?! Or am I crazy to even be considering this?

If you can’t afford it, it’s sadly not available to you. Lovely idea but maybe store away for another time post lottery win.

Just ask him, if he says yes do it. I can't imagine anyone wanting a gift worth that much.

MandMand · 22/02/2020 15:48

How about getting him a voucher for a flight simulator? Much more affordable, and last longer.

Crystal87 · 22/02/2020 17:55

It's too much. Those type of things are for people with money to burn.

lostinleaves · 22/02/2020 18:08

The thing is I think he would absolutely love it

You need to do more than think he'd love it.

Ughmaybenot · 22/02/2020 18:10

Fuck me, no. Doesn’t sound like you can really afford it comfortably, and i personally would feel cripplingly guilty having that huge amount of money spent on me, when there are others in the family!

VirtualHamster · 22/02/2020 18:10

I know you said he'd love it, but if you gave him 3k would he choose to spend it on a single short Spitfire flight.

My OH would be ecstatic if he won this as a prize, but he wouldn't think it was worth spending 3k on at this point in our lives (i.e. we're not lottery winners struggling to spend our winnings!)

He was over the moon with the tigermoth flight I bought him

You can fly WITH one for a fraction of the cost:

This is something I would love to do myself, the Spitfire is such an iconic, beautiful aircraft but the cost is far,far too much for me - as an alternative, what about a taxi experience in a Lancaster bomber? Another once in a lifetime experience, much cheaper, about £420 I think, currently. Am saving up for this myself! Only downside is that they are booked up nearly 18 months in advance - www.lincsaviation.co.uk

Do you know what flight experiences he has done?

Flight in a Harvard?
