School admin assistant application

Hi guys

I am currently filling out my application form for an admin assistant at a local primary school. I think I have pretty much covered it but there is still one point I have not covered as I'm not sure what to write..

  • Appropriate knowledge of first aid

I don't know what to write for this as I don't have any first aid training etc

Can someone please help?

Also if someone is able to proof read my supporting information I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance xx

Maybe it's just my area (East London/Essex) but when I was Chair of Govs at my local primary school, applications for office admin jobs would literally hit 80+ in the first couple of days of being advertised.

A willingness to learn is the least they'll expect. Producing a certificate (even if it is just an online course), shows forward thinking and initiative.

RoxanneMonke the school haven't stated they expect her to be first aid trained already - just appropriate knowledge, although the OP hasn't said whether it's essential or desirable.

My guess is desirable.

I started a school office job in September. Didn't have first aid but made it clear in the interview that I'd be very keen to do a course and I was sent on a paediatric FA course by the end of Sept! Schools like to have this covered themselves, my school has since sent another group of staff on one.

I'd be tempted to mention that you had 'taken' a paediatric course many year ago but qualification has now lapsed Wink
But you are happy to refresh!!
Make sure you have mentioned safeguarding in your application

I wouldnt bothertelling them that you can "treat" a nosebleed or stick a plaster on - anyone can do that. I would just say that you dont currently hold a first aid qualification but would be very happy to go on a course as required.

wineandsunshine · 22/02/2020 18:45

Hmmm I had paediatric from childminding before I started as an LSA in a school, now that has expired they have yet to put me into another course....

I would state that you have personal experience of dealing with first aid at home and you would like to be considered for training on first aid in the workplace.

Does the application spec detail whether it is Essential or Desirable and whether that element is looked for in the Application or at Interview.
Sometimes it has just letters next to each point such as D or E. This gives you an indication of what they are looking for.

The school will have its own in house trained first-aiders.

The school will have trained first aiders but I’ve never known one to have in-house training. We send people out to courses or sometimes get trainers to come to school for things like epi pen training.

Just say you have no formal training, are aware of basic first aid and willing to attend any course required.

When I got my first school admin job I said (truthfully) that I had held fist aid qualifications previously and would be willing to attend courses to re qualify. I now do regular retraining alternating between paediatric and emergency first aid.

Posters who have referred to in house training mean i.e; the school makes its own arrangements to train staff through external courses not that they are training them themselves on the school site.
