Does anyone here work in hospitality in a hotel? There is a sign to say that there is some white powder on the bedframe and under the bed. It is a harmless dust treatment apparently. I'm not too happy about this ?

Bed bugs.

I can't see that it would be effective to pre-emptively treat all the beds just once a year. I reckon they've had an actual outbreak.

Diatomaceous earth is not actually that marvellous at killing them. It takes about 10 days to dry them out, but the trouble is they moult every 3-5 days until adulthood so they keep getting a fresh start with a new shell. It kills most of the adults after about 10 days, during which time they can lay a lot of eggs.

There's this other stuff called Cimexa which you can get in the US but it's not licenced in the UK for some reason. It's also a type of silica dust but it kills them all within 2 days.

We had bed bugs around this time last year and I ended up ordering Cimexa off ebay. It's the only thing that finally did the trick.

I've always fancied staying at that hotel. We usually stay over the road at the Premier Inn but I believe the Novotel has a pool...
