I have a huge load of maternity clothes. Most worn once all immaculate. 15 items.
Put on marketplace for £15, one no show. One offered £5.

Also a unisex bundle of newborn vests (20) and sleepsuits (18) the bundle for £10 if say half not worn ( gifted between dd and ds and neither got to wear most) . Again lots of interest but no show.

Ideally I'd. Like to make a few quid back on some of it. I live in a spfh. It's all washed and ironed. Well presented

What am I doing wrong.?
Am I best just keeping it and car booting it in the summer?
Or charity the maternity to get rid? And the baby clothes to Sure start..

I sell on eBay, never used marketplace. eBay is fine if you sell things at a reasonable price and time wasting isn’t really an option because you post things rather than wait for someone to collect.

If the money isn’t so important to you then donate to charity. I can’t believe someone suggested the tip Hmm.

Blackbear19 · 21/02/2020 18:00

Ijust take the stuff to the tip. Far easier

How careless and wasteful

To be fair, did you see the artical on BBC about UK clothing ending up in landfill in Gambia?

So much of our cheap fashion polyester is being "recycled" exported but they don't have the market for used cheap stuff they want used good quality "dead man's clothing" so the cheap stuff ends up in landfill!

Marriedtoapenguin · 21/02/2020 18:01

Have done tabletop sales and frankly it's not worth the hassle. People would rather spend £2 on Primark tat than 25p on a second hand item regardless of quality.

The charity shop were very appreciative though for the rest of the stuff.

Freecycle.

Rocketpants50 · 21/02/2020 18:10

I just gave a load of stuff to a charity shop, decent stuff but just couldn't go through the pain of trying to sell it and like to give to charity. This pm was looking for something on fb selling site before I went and got new, and there are lots of items I took to charity shop! I don't mind as charity shop obviously got the money but this guy is claiming they are new without tags - there is too much of my stuff there to be a coincidence! Cheeky and def not new and trying to sell at stupid prices so hope he gets stuck with it all and has to give back to charity shop! Believing in karma!

Sceptre86 · 21/02/2020 18:11

Depending on the size of the clothes I would donate to a preschool or nursery. Younger kids sized clothes I would drop off at a charity shop, if they can't sell it they can at least get money for it as rags.

BadlyArrangedToasties · 21/02/2020 18:15

I give dc’s old clothes to nursery - they always need spare stuff, even socks and knickers! Kids get dirty and go through all their own clothes, so nursery has a spares bin. I also give them old toys and books.
The rest I send to charity shop. If you have a women’s aid charity shop take it there if they don’t sell it they give it to women and children who need it. Also: refugee collections, baby banks and children’s centres. Don’t send it to landfill.

inwood · 21/02/2020 19:01

Totally given up. I give it all to charity now. When I was on mat leave when eBay was first up and running I did, it was still a pain in the stew.

inwood · 21/02/2020 19:01

Stew?? Arse.

londonrach · 21/02/2020 19:04

Depends if you need the money. Its hit and miss by for me £5 means food.

cobwebfew · 21/02/2020 19:05

YANBU. I donate what I can to charity. Most clothes, unless they were ridiculously expensive and still have the tags and can't take them back (they get sold or given to a family member if possible), get donated.

Appletreehouse · 21/02/2020 19:29

I have sold clothes on Ebay and done quite well but also had hassle with a few items, and it a faff to post so don't bother unless it's for £15 or more for winter coats etc.. Clothes don't seem to sell on Facebook so I usually just charity shop them every so often.

Notanotherflightdelay · 21/02/2020 19:34

How careless and wasteful.

Our tip has at least 3 kinds of clothes recycling?

bumblenbean · 21/02/2020 19:40

Argh I’m having the same thing, it’s infuriating. I’ve sold a few things but have concluded it’s not worth the hassle. People asking For it at half the price, requesting delivery or postage of one item worth £2 which in my mind is not worth the trip to the post office. Or most annoying of all, agreeing to buy then saying oh I’ve just seen where you are, too far away sorry - when location is clearly listed on the ad and its a local site!

I gave a load of baby stuff to a domestic violence refuge recently - much more worthwhile overall.
