AIBU sharing childhood stories with DC's

So just got off the phone from my df. I said lo is running around naked, he's 2 and loves being naked.
Df said ' well he takes after you! You were just the same'
I was totally embarrassed 😳 not because it was weird but it's embarrassing to think of yourself like that when you now 30!

So this is my AIBU - my eldest dc are 15 & 12 and I am forever telling them all the things they did as a dc ( especially since lo came along) and they really cringes at times but I just thought it was funny and they are beautiful memories until it happened to ME!

So should I stop Confused

Also what embarrassing things did you hear about when you were a child? Maybe that you wish you hadn't

Ha ha! I think parents are there to be embarrassing and cringe making!

Sparklfairy · 21/02/2020 14:27

My DM told me an embarrassing story of mine the other day (which I won't repeat Blush ) - she could barely speak for laughing Grin I have no recollection of said event even though I was about 8 (must have repressed it in shame!). It was fine, and I'm your age OP. Kids do daft things and teens cringe at everything parents say don't they? Grin

Gatehouse77 · 21/02/2020 14:28

Mine love hearing stories about them when they were young. Likewise any about ourselves.
No embarrassment but maybe that’s to do with context?

inwood · 21/02/2020 14:29

Don't all kids love running around naked? I really can't see what's embarrassing about that! My kids love hearing about when they were small.

PhilomenaChristmasPie · 21/02/2020 14:30

I don't find it embarrassing. Mind you, I did when I was 12.

Napqueen1234 · 21/02/2020 14:32

I find it strange you’re embarrassed that you liked being naked as a child surely that’s all children! I love hearing childhood stories so I wouldn’t stop- if there’s a particular one they hate just take notice and avoid that one in future.

MatildaTheCat · 21/02/2020 14:34

I will never stop repeating the story of my toddler son doing a poo on the floor of a pub. I put up with a lot of other shit and deserve that memory Grin. I must add he thinks it’s funny too.

Most DC like to hear funny stories about themselves, surely. But nothing nasty or truly embarrassing.

ohtheholidays · 21/02/2020 14:35

I tell my 5DC daft things I did when I was a child and they think it's bloody hilarious,I think being able to laugh at yourself is a good trate to have and there is so much for me to laugh about Grin

We also tell them stories about daft things they've done and there's always the OMG please stop whilst laughing along at themselves.

stargirl1701 · 21/02/2020 14:37

I minded in my teens but not as an adult.

Cornettoninja · 21/02/2020 14:41

I hate to be the resident Debbie downer but one of my parents is dead and the other had a brain injury leaving them severely disabled. It’s a huge source of sadness to me that I have no idea if my dd is taking after me. DP’s family do the whole ‘she’s so like you were ’ and though it’s lovely it’s hard to not be slightly stung by it and a little envious.

They might be cringing now but this is one of those things you don’t truly appreciate until you don’t have it.

iklboo · 21/02/2020 14:46

My cousin & I had DS(14) in stitches at a family meal last week telling him what we got up to as kids. He likes hearing about stuff he did when he was little that he can't remember.

MintyMabel · 21/02/2020 14:50

Wouldn’t think twice about it and it doesn’t bother me when my parents do it to me.

missyB1 · 21/02/2020 14:54

Ha ha that’s what families are for! I have an adult ds and just recently reminded him of the time he was prancing around in the garden with a sparkler on bonfire night shouting “look at me I’m a fairy!”
He flatly denied it Grin

DesLynamsMoustache · 21/02/2020 14:57

Ha, my mum has pics of me gardening in nowt but my welly boots when I was about 3! I don't find them embarrassing at all. But teens get embarrassed at everything Grin

EverythingChanges321 · 21/02/2020 15:04

My parents are both dead so no embarrassing stories from them, thank goodness.
However, DS likes me to tell him about things I did as a child instead of a bedtime story. Probably because it’s more interesting than my attempt at telling bedtime stories. Grin

everybodyshowlove2020 · 21/02/2020 15:06

I think for me it's because I didn't really seem my df much as a child, so I forget that he was around.
Our relationship got more regular as I got older, so to hear anything from him when I was a child is kinda like a stranger saying it, those it is nice to hear just embarrassing BlushGrin

ArriettyJones · 21/02/2020 15:06

@Cornettoninja Flowers That is tough.

everybodyshowlove2020 · 21/02/2020 15:09

Some of these are hilarious and too cute!
I do think the dc secretly like it, well I hope because it will be hard for me to stop.

OP posts:
everybodyshowlove2020 · 21/02/2020 15:10

@Cornettoninja oh I sorry sorry to hear that. Thank you for sharing I will definitely appreciate it x

OP posts:
ArriettyJones · 21/02/2020 15:11

OP I think even when they sometimes cringe (especially teens) the fact that you are expressing love and fondness through remembering and relating these little details does make them feel loved.

TheNoiseHurts · 21/02/2020 15:15

You had a baby when you were 15?
That must have been hard!

Missing the point totally!

That kinda thing doesn't embarrass me. Good thing too really because apparently I used to smear my poo all over my cot.

Cornettoninja · 21/02/2020 15:19

Thanks @ArriettyJones.

I think it’s important to realise that sometimes kids don’t know what they might appreciate when they’re older and sharing your memories of them might be something they really cherish in the future even if it gives them an attack of cringes now Grin

amazedmummy · 21/02/2020 15:24

Nah. I love hearing stories about when I was wee. We had the biggest laugh recently. My mum had kept our cot so I could use it with my child. While I was pregnant she got it down from the loft so we could clean it etc. Turns out my sister is part beaver and had chewed all along the top. We were in stitches imagining her.

Mummyoflittledragon · 21/02/2020 15:34

I think it’s lovely to have stories of when you were a child. I don’t hear many about me as I don’t have that kind of relationship with my mother. I have a lot of memories of my childhood though. I do tell dd about how she was as a little one sometimes as does dh. She’s 11 now. As for the embarrassing teen thing, absolutely. It’s the law, isn’t it? Wink

everybodyshowlove2020 · 21/02/2020 16:07

@TheNoiseHurts I'm actually 32 so 17, but yes young mum.
And wow that's hilarious ds2 did that on the car window when he checked what was in his nappy- his face was not impressed
