To think this is disgusting behaviour in the work place?

So a colleague has been sacked because of a serious crime he committed (the trial is on going at crown court) and he’s even pleaded guilty to one of the charges.

There has been zero announcement from management regarding this and today they forwarded us an email he’d sent saying goodbye to all of us and then he’s decided to leave for a fresh start (no he’s been sacked)

Aibu to think this is disgusting and he should not be allowed to control the narrative and pretend he’s no wrong and management should not facilitate him in doing so?

Reading my aibu I didn’t make it clear. I wouldn’t expect management to email or make an announcement.

My aibu is directly regarding the goodbye email. His crime was disgusting and I don’t believe he should be given the right to email or contact us as a team.

Depends on the ‘crine’

PointlessAddict · 20/02/2020 20:25

My aibu was regarding the goodbye email they forwarded to us. I do not believe they should have done this.

Ah ok, well I tend to agree.

Also - and provided I knew that his sacking was a fact - I’d be cheesed off if he was making out to his former colleagues he was leaving of his own accord when he’d in fact been dismissed

Smoggyloggy · 20/02/2020 20:25

Crime!

itsjumanji · 20/02/2020 20:25

He has not been convicted of said crime, only charged and in the process of a trial.

He plead guilty to one charge so ...

Yes, you’ve written it so much better than I did.

Should management also tell you that Kayleigh got caught shoplifitng when she was 15, or that Mustafa has got 6 points on his licence for drink driving or that Mavis lied about her age on her application form?

None of it is any of your business.

Catchuptv · 20/02/2020 20:28

He's gone now so it doesn't really matter if management sent you his email. I think you're getting a bit upset over nothing really.

KatherineJaneway · 20/02/2020 20:29

He plead guilty to one charge so ...

Of what though? Not many facts in your OP.

xsquared · 20/02/2020 20:30

Difficult to know why management thought it was appropriate to forward the rest of the team his email. Perhaps others were asking after him, and they felt they owed an explanation, I don't know.

Sigh ... maybe read my other posts?

In fact, if I knew that he’d definitely been dismissed I’d ask management why he was permitted to send a communication for onward transmission for former colleagues which tended to suggest he’d left of his own accord. This is the kind of wankery “management” in my last job would also do.

FlamingoAndJohn · 20/02/2020 20:32

Did the email say ‘John says goodbye’ or ‘hi, John here. I’ll miss all of you while I’m inside for an indeterminate length of time’?

First one, fair enough.
Second one, less so.

glitterfarts · 20/02/2020 20:34

OP said disgusting so probably rape, child abuse etc.

The email was written by him to the team and he sent it to our manager who forwarded it on to all of us.

The company need to manage their legal risks. They have made a decision to terminate which sounds like the right one but they are certainly not obliged to send an email to the company announcing the circumstances of his departure. Why do you care so much?

JennysTailor · 20/02/2020 20:36

Jeschara I'm speculating on a mumsnet thread based on Op's reaction. I don't know the man in question nor have I published his home address on Facebook alongside a photo and accusation or spray painted 'beast' over his garage door.

gypsywater · 20/02/2020 20:36

People saying "innocent until proven guilty" when the guy has pleaded guilty. Some people on here are fucking thick.

Sorry I missed this and agree with you that they shouldn't have forwarded this email!

xsquared · 20/02/2020 20:39

I think if I were in position, I would not have expected management to forward any communication. Given that he is definitely in the wrong, I would just be pleased to not work with that individual again and never hear anything from him again.

No news speaks volumes about why they left in my experience.

stayingontherail · 20/02/2020 20:45

I’m he might have made this a condition of him going quietly if the one thing he owned up to was not a sackable offence. Bit hard to tell the whys and wherefores.

stayingontherail · 20/02/2020 20:46

Bit hard to tell without* the whys and wherefores.

JennysTailor · 20/02/2020 20:49

Is it a bit of a boy's club at your place of work OP? Or was the man in question regarded as a 'nice guy'? Perhaps management are good friends with him and don't believe the charges or believe what he did was truly wrong. Again, pure speculation. Grin and life experience
