To be confused by which buggy to choose for London living?

I am so confused by the array of choices out there and don't even get the terminology - buggy, stroller, pram, etc etc!

Basically I live in London and expect to be using the tube mostly and sometimes buses. I intend to use a sling on the whole, but want to have a buggy (or whatever they are called) as a backup option for the newborn and also for if s/he doesn't like slings.

What is THE best buggy for using the tube and getting round London? e.g. light, small, no hassle, easy to manage, pick up, take down escalators etc?

The smallest you can find - and small includes small wheels. No giant handle that can't be shortened. Even when folded needs to be small.
Do not even think about one that needs the seat taking off to fold it. You may have to go forward facing and no carry cot but as long as it lies flat that's fine.
The YoYo ones seem to be good from what I witness.

I love the babyjogger city mini because you can fold it with one hand and it’s suitable for a wide range of ages. I’ve never met anyone who regrets buying one.

Bugaboo bee or baby zen yoga

Busymummy16 · 20/02/2020 17:49

Babyzen yoyo I mean

RicStar · 20/02/2020 17:51

Lots of people have yoyo or bugaboo bee. I looked at yoyo but felt a but flimsy to me for the cost, I know lots of people who like them though. We had a second hand bugaboo which i did really like - the handle catch broke but it was really old. We now have a city jogger as I prefer bigger wheels and couldn't justify the cost of a microlite buggy it's still fairly narrow, light and easy to fold.

I did a lot of research based on the same criteria. We're in London, in car, and needed a light pushchair I could carry up the stairs to our flat.

We got the city mini jogger. Light, easy to fold and suitable from birth. I'd recommend it. But actually we loved using the sling so much that we rarely used it. Sling is so convenient.

When she got older, we got the maclaren mark II. It's the lightest pushchair on the market. You can easily sling it over your shoulder whilst going up and down stairs in the tube. Suitable from 6 months.

People also rave about the baby zen yoyo.

*no car I mean, not in car.

Stokke xplory!

SmallPinkBear · 20/02/2020 18:03

Babyzen yoyo. Hands down the best. So easy to lift, you can fit in small gaps on the bus and easy to fold up/open.

Nightmanagerfan · 20/02/2020 18:05

We have a babyzen yo-yo and a sling and I don’t regret our choice. On buses you can fit three yo-yos in! They are so fab - we live in zone 2 and I walk a lot, and it’s been our best purchase by far.

Mallysmomma · 20/02/2020 18:08

Bugaboo bee. I loved mine; folds easily and in one piece, very light, can use from birth and so so comfortable to push. It also has a quick up/down handle button to squeeze in lists or for different height couples to swap easily. Can not recommend it enough for running around London on/ of transport and in/out of car super quickly and efficiently.

dorapie · 20/02/2020 18:08

Babyzen yo-yo. By far the best buggy for London - and for taking on planes!

doadeer · 20/02/2020 18:09

I looked at yoyo Zen and bugaboo bee. We went with the bugaboo as I didn't like that the zen doesn't have baby facing when they move out of the newborn bit. I'm happy with my choice I live near woods and it manages to do well there as well as navigating London!

Have friends happy with the yoyo

Go and try them in John Lewis and see which you like.

RhodaDendron · 20/02/2020 18:11

I had a Bugaboo Bee, absolutely loved it but like the look of the BabyZen Yoyo too. Recommend these two as the only ones that can be lifted up and down steps/tucked into space on buses/locked out of the way on tubes by someone with a possibly weakened core!

LulusMiniEgg · 20/02/2020 18:11

Babyzen YOYO or Bugaboo bee! I work in the nursery industry and love my yoyo, wish I’d got it from birth

Jessie9323 · 20/02/2020 18:12

Bugabooo bee 5, we have one and it's amazing. We also have a baby zen yo-yo but don't find it as stable or easy to push

ohdearthehouseisburningdown · 20/02/2020 18:13

Ergobaby Metro almost as small as the yoyo but with slightly larger back wheels and super padded seat.

mynameiscalypso · 20/02/2020 18:14

I live in London and I'd say the vast majority of people where I live have a Bugaboo Bee with a few of the Baby Zen thrown in. I like my Bee; it's easy enough on the tubes but sturdy enough to survive parks / cobbled streets / terrible weather.

SoonMummy · 20/02/2020 18:14

@emwantsbiscuits thanks - had a look at the babyjogger city mini and was confused about how you use it with a newborn. Do you need the extra bits they sell for 'infants' or can the newborn use it as it is in the main pushchair bit?

We have a 7wo and are in London. We love our yo-yo

Nowayorhighway · 20/02/2020 18:16

Bugaboo Bee

Nowayorhighway · 20/02/2020 18:16

A lot of people like the Doona too but it looks like a dolls pram

EssentialHummus · 20/02/2020 18:18

Yoyo or Bee. We have a Cosatto and while it’s wonderful and robust and frankly beautiful it is the size of a Nissan Micra and no easier to navigate public transport with.

LaurieMarlow · 20/02/2020 18:19

What everyone else said. Bee or Yo-Yo.

Having said that, I had a Chameleon in London and it was great.
