Does using this crib make me a lazy parent?

So I had bought a Chicco next to me crib but today I was offered by a PR company a SNOO crib and they’re meant to be amazing, but very costly at around £1,000. But of course who would say no to it, right? Anyway I’ve been looking into it and it sounds brilliant - you can see the review here www.goodhousekeeping.com/childrens-products/a41743/snoo-smart-sleeper-review/

It was developed by an American doctor and offers white noise and womb-like rocking. I was really excited for it! But then I’ve seen a viral video of the crib, and so many comments were calling parents who use it lazy, substitute mothers, that it would be bad for development, basically that it makes you a crap mother to use one, and it’s really disheartened me as I want that close bond with my baby.

But it supposedly helps with sleep and being on bipolar medication which makes me very sleepy I could really do with any extra rest!

Do you think someone who uses this crib is a bad or lazy parent?

No of course not! There arent any prizes for making things deliberately more difficult than they need to be!

However dont get too excited, nothing is a fool proof and works for every child! Your baby might hate it+

ChickenDippers123 · 20/02/2020 16:58

Totally get my baby might hate it! I wouldn’t buy one myself (could NEVER afford that) but everyone loves a freebie and it would be amazing if it did work. @rhymingrabbit3

How is it lazy? Some babies like to be held sure, but those won't be tempted into the posh cot even with the extra features. However, if your baby is happy to be put in then it sounds excellent; the only people who think it's lazy are probably mummy martyrs who believe you shouldn't put a baby down until they're 5. Try it especially as it's free.

chrestomamci · 20/02/2020 16:59

Doesn't make you lazy sounds fantastic! Otherwise you'd just end up rocking the next2me and buying a white noise machine 🤷🏻‍♀️

They just sound a bit jealous

My parenting philosophy is so whatever makes your life easiest to get by no medals for being a Martyr parent

RhymingRabbit3 · 20/02/2020 17:00

Oh absolutely, I would never say no to a freebie! And it does look amazing.

I'm guessing the parents who think you're "lazy" for using a baby gadget have never used a perfect prep machine for formula, a washing machine to wash their baby clothes and they spend each morning collecting wood to heat water for their baby's bath. Who would say no to something that will make your life easier.

PicaK · 20/02/2020 17:01

If its free take it with both arms and run. Parenting is really hard. Parenting with bipolar is going to be harder. Don't feel guilty for having something that makes your life easier. Babies need responsive parents - any self nurturing you can give yourself then do. (If you were adopting you would have this drummed into you during training.)
That said your baby might not like it. And I suspect its success is due to the swaddling rather than the noise/movement.
But quit with the guilt now. Flowers

DesLynamsMoustache · 20/02/2020 17:04

God if it's free then take it! I'm not sure a baby will be able tell the difference between you rocking a cot and the cot rocking itself Grin, so I wouldn't worry about any bonding issues!

Nowayorhighway · 20/02/2020 17:19

No it sounds absolutely fantastic, I’d love to be offered one Grin.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 20/02/2020 17:21

Erm, did the PR company give it to you so that you'd start a Mumsnet thread advertising it?

GreenTulips · 20/02/2020 17:23

There’s similar ones on the market

I’d have killed for one had they been available when mine were little.

diddl · 20/02/2020 17:24

Didn't newborns used to go in a cradle so that they could be rocked?

Do they get used anymore?

ChickenDippers123 · 20/02/2020 17:38

No @LisaSimpsonsbff I’m a journalist so will be writing a review for them for the website I work for... seen plenty of people posting links on here so I didn’t think it was an issue, especially as it’s a good housekeeping link and I don’t work for them lol

Go for it!
I really hope it works well for you. If not, nothing lost at all.

WinterCat · 20/02/2020 18:05

I imagine it’s the same people who think experiencing labour without any pain relief makes them superior who thinks using one or these makes you less of a parent.

DesLynamsMoustache · 20/02/2020 18:13

A few of the mums in my Reddit bumpers group had Snoos. They had mixed reviews of them –some of them really liked them, but others it didn't really work for and was just a really expensive piece of unused furniture Grin. I am inclined to think that if you have a bad sleeper, a Snoo won't really change that, and if you have a good sleeper, then it's not really necessary in the first place, but there's certainly no harm to come from trying it.

CastleCrasher · 20/02/2020 18:18

Go for it! As others have said, the fancy bits may not work for you depending on your baby, but either way it's a free bed for DC, and if some of the added features work for you, all the better.

Blackandgreenteas · 20/02/2020 18:18

Looks amazing! Wish I’d had one!

GlummyMcGlummerson · 20/02/2020 18:18

Who cares. Just have the crib.

Skittlesss · 20/02/2020 18:45

Very lazy.

In my day we had to grow our leg hair in order to trim it and knit it into nice little blankets. If you didn’t do things yourself then your baby would end up spoiled rotten. Grin
