to ask if it’s usual to not be allowed to have the curtains shut round

The cubicle when admitted to an a&e short stay ward. Never been admitted before and just went to shut the curtains to be told I couldn’t.

Surely it depends if you need to be under constant observation?

YouBoggleMyMind · 19/02/2020 20:54

Not quite the same but my DS was on a ward and we weren't able to have the curtains shut either. My understanding is it is so they're able to see you/any monitors etc in case anything happens.

happytoday73 · 19/02/2020 20:54

They need to keep an eye on you and spot quickly if you need help. Common practice

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 19/02/2020 20:54

I imagine in AnE irs more urgent they can observe you.

Nurse here, when I worked in the ED I wanted to see all of my patients. Most A&E patients have the potential to deteriorate very quickly, if you are behind a curtain, you are not in sight.

QueenofmyPrinces · 19/02/2020 20:55

I work in a hospital (on a ward) and the only times the curtains can be closed is if the nurse/doctor is carrying out some procedure on the patient, or if someone is breast feeding.

They also have to be kept open overnight which most people complain about Smile

RedIsWhereItsAt · 19/02/2020 20:55

Also they want to see beyond you, at whoever is in the next cubicles.

recklessgran · 19/02/2020 20:55

The curtains are there for your privacy when being examined etc but of course staff need to be able to keep an eye on you hence why you weren't allowed to close them. Hope you feel better soon OP.

The curtains are there for privacy when the doctors or nurses are examining you etc. As others have said they are kept open at other times for observation. Hope you feel better soon Flowers
