NC for this. Feel really terrible right now. My husband bought a car through a website that sell on behalf of the actual seller and deliver the car to you. The money is paid to the company and after the car is delivered the funds get released to the seller. The company have a glossy website and claim to do all checks on said car.

Anyway we found this car and checked all the history out and were sent the service history with all the garages names on so we phoned them all and they all had record of this car being serviced with them etc. Multiple reviews online for this company saying how good they are and forums with people saying they've used them and it all seemed fine.
Husband transferred the money and got a confirmation type email with delivery date and time and the car didnt turn up.
I feel so awful for him, he isnt stupid and was weary about it but did so many checks and paid for checks to be done but everything we questioned there was a plausible answer for. Nothing seemed wrong at all. The company even comes up on Google maps with reviews. Apparently all fake

Sorry this isnt an AIBU I just needed to get it out and hopefully warn anyone considering buying a car this way. We feel so stupid and have lost a lot of money.

Is this them?

Been scammed

I really hope you get something back OP. It might also be worth contacting Darren McCaughey and letting him know that his business DMC logistics is being used as part of a scam but I think the police may contact him. DMC isn't even registered in Aberdeen! It's registered in Glasgow and the business name is his initials. Seems unlikely he would set up a website to con people and link it to his own legit business

redcarbluecar · 19/02/2020 09:54

Sorry to hear this. What a complete bugger for you. I hope you manage to recoup the money.

Dandydoodle · 19/02/2020 09:54

@Bezalelle, was it really necessary to call the OP stupid? If that's the best you can do then you should have a serious look at yourself and your attitude. Thankfully plenty of other decent people have got on board with this to help the OP out.

OP, I don't have any advice further to what's already been suggested by others but I do hope you get it sorted soon.

Police and trading standards OP.

NemophilistRebel · 19/02/2020 10:03

Sorry this has happened to you

I hope you get money back and hope someone does something to actually shut this down

Sad thing is you really won’t be the only one.

I hope you get it sorted. It could happen to anyone. At least this might get them caught.

LIZS · 19/02/2020 10:08

I'm sure bbc Watchdog covered a similar story , also about a "seller" in Scotland who failed to produce the car. Might be worth an email.

AlternativePerspective · 19/02/2020 10:09

At the end of the day every scam has its victims. What one might fall for another might not and vice versa. And all they need is one person to fall for it a month and they’re making money.

I had the phone call the other day from the IRS stating how a fraudulent transaction had happened in my name and how if I didn’t press 1 right now to speak to their offices (in a menacing voice) “you will get arrested!!!!!” I sure as hell wouldn’t fall for that one but people obviously do or it wouldn’t be worth their while.

My DP fell for the rental one where they send you pictures of a property and you send them a deposit etc. At that point he was desperate for somewhere to rent and transferred the money before he told me and I questioned whether it was possibly a scam. It was, and ironically the same scam was featured the next day on the 1 show.

In DP’s case first direct did get the money back although I can’t remember how he went about it. But action fraud weren’t interested in the slightest.

The women of Mumsnet never cease to amaze me.
Well done

AryaStarkWolf · 19/02/2020 10:09

Scumbags. Hopefully you will get some if not all back OP. Good luck

Trouserless1 · 19/02/2020 10:16

None of those forum posts are real. If you click on any link on the page you'll notice the URL subtly changes to the actual forum URL. The fake 'forum-mbclub.co.uk' changes to the real 'forums.mbclub.co.uk'.

TheQueef · 19/02/2020 10:18

In my extensive Gloria Hunniford viewing (bed recovery from illness Grin) the range and complexity of the newer scams has convinced me genuine people don't stand a chance.

The scammers have the power of the internet behind them to forge new scams with all their scammer friends collaborating.
They spend lots of time researching social engineering, they are at the top of their game.

It amuses me all the clever people declaring they wouldn't fall for it, giving the scammers better ideas.

FFB I hope the police are helpful and have time to investigate for you.

FlamingoAndJohn · 19/02/2020 10:20

Look at this ‘forum post’ www.swdubsuk.co.uk/discution/review/autos/view/View-topic-Anyone-dealt-with-them-DevSale-Trading-Group-swdubsforums.co.uk.html#/forum/search.php?search_id=active_topics

If you click on the links to active topics etc then none of them work.

Some superb sleuthing powers demonstrated here!

Hope you get your money back OP

Beautiful3 · 19/02/2020 10:22

I feel really sorry for you both. Please dont feel stupid. Speak with your bank quickly and see if there is anything they can do.

FlamingoAndJohn · 19/02/2020 10:23

It’s interesting how a lot of posters in the forum link there seem to be in Exeter.

FlamingoAndJohn · 19/02/2020 10:25

And if you go to www.swdubsuk.co.uk/ there is nothing.

HopefulButScared · 19/02/2020 10:25

@hoodathunkit I'm in the IOM, as far as I can see, Indigo Strategic is a genuine company. It's registered, Matthew Parsons is a real person who has been in our local news in the past for heading up financial companies.

services.gov.im/ded/services/companiesregistry/viewcompany.iom?Id=466591

www.isleofman.com/News/details/84471/promotion-of-matthew-parsons-to-managing-director-of-fps-group

I think the FAQ about Indigo not handling the money is genuine - they handle payroll but then it's up to the company itself who is using the services to actually pay their staff.

OP I'm so sorry you've found yourself in this situation, it's awful. i hope the bank are able to get your money back.

eenymeenyminyme · 19/02/2020 10:27

I'm so impressed with the super sleuthing of some people on here - hope it all helps you get your money back OP!

Less impressed with the people who feel the need to kick OP when she's down, we're all potentially vulnerable to a scam, and this one would have been very tricky to spot without the benefit of hindsight.

HopefulButScared · 19/02/2020 10:28

@hoodathunkit Although I will say it's unusual to use a 0800 number over here, everything is usually just the local 01624 in my experience.

SciFiScream · 19/02/2020 10:29

This thread makes me think all this wonderful advice should be made into a fact sheet about how to spot sophisticated scams.

I consider myself quite internet savvy but am not sure how the super sleuths found out the info they did.

Well done everyone and thank you.
