Personal Email sent to whole department by mistake

I've ducked up and worried about potential outcomes of this faux pas

An was sent to staff with platitudes about Caroline flaks suicide which I found infuriating, I've also been really annoyed by comments on social media about suicide ect

I thought I'd hit forward on the email but got reply and got distracted by other work and used it for writing notes and during my shift also wrote a bit of a rant for my diary

Anyhoo fast forward to the end of the night I'm knackered and in a rush to head home i just hit send on a couple of the emails i had open only to realise i sent my ramblings onto the whole department 🤦‍♀️

Worst case scenario i get fired for being a trouble maker best case scenario they all have a good laugh at me 🤦‍♀️

Aibu to be mortified by this?

I would send out an apology to your Department tomorrow. I would be really irritated by an email like that from a colleague.

FilledSoda · 18/02/2020 21:54

So this didn't happen but it was a test or something ?

TryingToBeBold · 18/02/2020 22:26

Not only did my comment get deleted (I think it was tame compared to others)...
I don't even know if this situation is real..

people experiencing mental health problems should stay away from message boards/social media.

Quite right. Apart from specialist boards like MN mental health boards. General message boards and social media are no place for vulnerable people to discuss mental health.

The other take-away is - or should be - never, ever compose personal writing in an email program at work. Even if it's a response to an email you received at work. Always use a local text editor instead. On Windows, Notepad is your friend.

his experience has been deeply humbling

And a final take-away - when doing your writing, try not to channel Uriah Heep.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 19/02/2020 16:08

Amaryllis... Uriah Heep! Grin

ferntwist · 19/02/2020 16:12

That email is so articulate and thoughtful that if they have any sense you’ll get promoted.

MrsBrentford · 19/02/2020 16:22

You can recall the email?

RiftGibbon · 19/02/2020 19:37

I'd love to cut and paste your words on my FB feed!

OneNote and EverNote are good too.

daisychain01 · 19/02/2020 20:38

I would never have drafted something like the OPs missive on a work computer. It isn't work, simple as.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 19/02/2020 21:25

OneNote and EverNote are good too.

Dunno about EverNote but OneNote is all cloudy-y, I wouldn't trust OneNote to not randomly share itself with everyone you ever met.

Notepad is too basic for any of that.

daisychain01 · 20/02/2020 03:39

I wouldn't trust OneNote to not randomly share itself with everyone you ever met.

Can't happen randomly, you have to proactively share (using the share menu option) to add people's names. I've been using OneNote for years and the security is fine. I never share any of my OneNote notebooks out, or any of the pages, just because I see it as my own personal online Filofax. But I don't put anything in my work version that would be classed as personal. It's all worky stuff, so I know if anyone needed to inspect my work account for audit purposes, it wouldn't come back to haunt me.

EverNote has lots of FWB enhancements over OneNote, lots of graphics capability and its fun!

daisychain01 · 20/02/2020 03:40

Lol at autocorrect - FWB should have said fab. That's what comes of being on the Relationships Board!
