Flood warning calls.

Hi all,

So I was hoping you can tell me if this is a new thing or if for some reason I have been put on a list for unknown reasons.

I keep getting fucking flood warning calls on my house phone and it's pissing me off. I live in the Midlands, incase it matters?

I have never had this before. I've had a house phone since the 80s when I left home.

I did change my home phone supplier and number about a month ago. I was never asked to be put on any list. I also made sure I was still ex-directory.

The calls are all hours of the day or night. Confused

You can ring the flood line on 0345 988 1188 and get them to take your number off the system.

Most likely someone’s made an error when signing up for alerts and put your number in instead of theirs.

wlv12 · 17/02/2020 21:33

Are you near Burton?

I’ve never heard of flood calls before this either, very random!

recededpronunciation · 17/02/2020 21:48

It’s a service you can sign up to if you’re in a flood risk area - phone calls, texts or emails.. Very handy if you are at risk, not so much if your number is on the list for calls by accident!

Glitterblue · 17/02/2020 23:08

We only get them because we signed up for them. Unfortunately we didn't know about being able to do that until after we were once flooded 🙄 I'd just ask to be taken off the list, on the number a previous poster supplied.

BadToast · 17/02/2020 23:17

Well it's bloody stupid to be put on this list without being asked.

@wlv12 had to Google that one Blush no over 30 miles from Burton? Why is this flood warning coming from there?

Would it be my new supplier that put me on the list? Or would it be more likely a mistake by a random person? If I call up to opt out, do I need to give my name and address and the like? Or is it just a automatic press 1 type thing?

So many questions that Google could answer.

Elephantonascooter · 18/02/2020 06:23

Are you near flooding? They could be seriously warning you for your safety. I think the formality of "I'm not on the list" is null and void once lives are at risk Confused

Bubblemonkey · 18/02/2020 07:08

I’d rather get phone calls than flood without any prior notice🤷🏼‍♀️

There are over 180 warnings at the moment flood-warning-information.service.gov.uk/warnings?location= if you're getting calls in the middle of the night there's probably a risk of flooding near you. But as someone else said I'd rather get these calls than flood without prior notice.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 19/02/2020 09:58

We are in an area prone to flooding and I find these calls invaluable - we've been on the service for at least 10 years. I'd much rather receive the odd warning call than not.

InOtterNews · 19/02/2020 11:27

Having been flooded badly in the past I personally welcome the call. Obviously I have eyes and can look out the window but the warning is given before water reaches dangerous levels further upstream so it acts as a reminder to be vigilant (and move important paperwork upstairs).
