I mean in school holidays? When they were younger it was soft play, farms, playgrounds, feed the ducks, swimming etc.
Now they still like spending time with us but at 11 and 13 it's trying to find something they're keen on. We do walks (they moan a bit), theme parks when weather ok and they're open, and the occasional trampoline park. We play board games or watch DVDs sometimes. Anything else? I'm not trying to fill all their time - just get them off their devices for something they want to do with us sometimes in the holidays! Any ideas I'm missing?

Escape rooms? Going out for lunch?

sleepismysuperpower1 · 17/02/2020 20:43

we do what you mentioned above, I can sometimes entice them to come swimming (they like racing each other) but following for ideas

Mummymummums · 17/02/2020 20:46

I'm going to look into Escape rooms!
They ice skate too, and we cycle but been too wet lately for that!

Invite a friend round/go to friends house. Trip to shops/cafe. Walks with dog. Play out on the street if the weather ok. Pottering at home baking, x box etc. Cinema or bowling maybe but can be expensive. In half term we also do things like haircuts.

hhsa · 17/02/2020 20:55

Movies at cinema. Eating out. Bowling. Baking. Trying new recipes that the kids can find themselves online.

PositiveVibez · 17/02/2020 20:56

Definitely an escape room!

I am taking 11yo DD and her friend to a cat cafe one day.

peonypower · 17/02/2020 20:57

Play dates (which for daughter is more trying on makeup etc with a friend), bike rides, baking, homework, music practice, making imovies, swimming, squash, shopping (daughter only likes that), xbox, board games, trip to art gallery (they prefer modern), scootering round London, museum, making them do chores with me (groceries, errands),

But even then, I get the "I'm booooooored" Hmm

LadyFuschia · 17/02/2020 20:59

My friend just took her boys to the local leisure centre and hired a badminton court for them to play on, which I thought was fab.

Sleepovers with friends
Trip to nearest city for shopping/lunch
DS showing me how to play on Xbox
Movie afternoons at home
Cinema
Escape room

There’s an axe throwing place recently opened near us - it sounds a bit random but looks fun!

Mummymummums · 17/02/2020 21:40

Thanks all, have booked an Escape Room!

Geocaching - my DCs loved it at the pre-teen/early teen stage. There's an app and then off they go!

Scottishgirl85 · 17/02/2020 21:55

Museums? (Fun ones like Science museum etc)

ineedaholidaynow · 17/02/2020 22:02

Hope you enjoy the Escape Room OP

Mummymummums · 17/02/2020 22:12

Thank you! Looking forward to it.
We did Geocaching for a bit a year or 2 ago - has forgotten about that.

I have a 17 yo- he has resisted coming out anywhere from being about 13 but food always wins! we are going out for lunch on Friday to a local restaurant and will both enjoy it. It's always about the food at a certain age Smile

LellyMcKelly · 18/02/2020 00:24

There’s a roller disco during the day in my town. This sounds a bit random but mine are always up for a day at the beach (there’s one half an hour a way from us). Even when the weather is a bit rubbish there’s a walk, a light house, a cream tea or ice cream, arcades (one pound each gives enough 2pees for a good half hours entertainment for them on the waterfall style machines), fish and chips (occasionally eaten in the car). It’s a great place to shake off the winter murk.
