To be considering a GoHenry card for DS

As title suggests; looking at giving DS (9) regular pocket money plus extra for chores completed. Does anyone have a GoHenry card for their DC - do you like it? Little put off by the £3 a month charge but like that I can control it with an app

We had one for a while as I had a few months free. Once paying £3 a month I got rid of it. We now have a bank card but mine are 15 and 12

We have a Nimble for a free trial - now it’s £28 a year.

We’ve had Go Henry for a couple of years - DD now 10. We pay£2.50 a month but we were always having to go and get cash especially to give DD so I am happy to pay for the convenience. We can see what she spends, when she spends it and encourage savings or transfer cash easily if she is away with friends/family.

We now transfer £50 per month and encourage DD to budget. We were th8nking about getting a bank card but the Go Henry app is just great to transfer and keep track of spending.

In all honesty I would just wait until they are old enough for a normal bank card (usually 11) then download the online banking app on both of your devices that way you can keep track of spending the same way you can with Go Henry.

I’ve been thinking of getting one for my teens as we usually just give them cash. Do they use it like a debit card? Can it be used in shops?

It's the fee that puts me off them. Thinking of getting DD a normal bank account and debit card.

DS (10) has just got one and he loves it. He’s used it in a shop and on Amazon and it’s really made him think about whether he actually wants something, when he has to use his own money for it 😂. The cost is a bit annoying compared to a proper bank but the app is great and it’d cost more in fuel having to go and get cash for him all the time!

We had them for our 3 and then the older 2 now have proper bank accounts with cards as they are over 11. DS2 is 9 and still has gohenry. It’s handy to keep in my purse so when we go out and about he can use it rather than forgetting his money and then having to pay me back etc

Dh got dd8 one to load her holiday spending money on. She had a large amount of money so we felt it safer than carrying cash. She absolutely loves using it. I don't realise dh pays a £3 per month charge. It is handy for saving pocket money. Dd gets £8 per month. I think you can do the same with parent pay too?

iklboo · 17/02/2020 20:43

Yes you can use them exactly like a debit card - they're contactless as well.

Ok, mixed bag of responses. £3 isn't that much a month I guess. He'd only have it for two or so years and then we'd move him over to a 'proper' card
