WIBU to block this car in

A car we've never seen before (presumably a neighbors guest) is parked right in front of our house on the road, right up to the edge of our driveway. As a result my partner couldn't get his car in the driveway, and had to park in the carpark right next to our end terraced house. For the sake of three meters I don't understand why the strange car couldn't park in the carpark. It's also bin day, and as a result of a lot of arguing and complaints to the council (2016 was the summer of the wheelie bin wars, more boring than it sounds) all bins will only be collected if directly outside their corresponding houses and easily accessed (I.e not behind a parked car) so we have had to block our own drive way with bins. Would I be unreasonable to go back out and block the strange car in with the bins for being too lazy to park in the carpark literally at the other side of my drive?

I would, if nothing else it would make you feel better. Next time maybe they would be more considerate

dognamedspot · 16/02/2020 23:14

Can't really say without seeing. If it's not overlapping your driveway they have done nothing wrong.

PurpleDaisies · 16/02/2020 23:15

Don’t you know every parking thread needs a diagram?!

smittenmummy · 16/02/2020 23:17

Due to the carpark and almost every house having a driveway cars aren't supposed to park on the (very narrow) road. Can't do anything about it but very inconvenient not being able to use our own drive way or put our bins out properly. Mostly lighthearted but if storm Dennis happens to blow some of our bin contents on the offending car I wouldn't feel too sorry for them Wink

YABU as the car is parked up to the edge of the driveway so not blocking it, and there is no reason for your partner not to be able to access your property. Unless I am misunderstanding what you are saying, in which case YABU to not provide a diagram.

malmi · 16/02/2020 23:21

There's no such thing as 'not supposed'. Either parking is allowed or not.

JKScot4 · 16/02/2020 23:25

Diagram please, by order of MN

smittenmummy · 16/02/2020 23:29

Excuse my awful diagram (for those who asked) I'm actually not sure if it's illegal to park on my road or if it's just a neighbourly agreement as it's such a narrow road I'll need to look into it but the inconvenient part is just that there's not enough room to manoeuvre into the driveway and there's a carpark right next to it. As I said lighthearted with mildly amusing dreams of a wheelie bin tipping into it Halo

I think you and DH need driving lessons if you can't get into your drive, based on that diagram. Might be slightly more inconvenient to maneuver rather than driving straight in, but certainly do able!

purpleboy · 16/02/2020 23:48

@Christmadtree op clearly said the road is very narrow, it's pretty obvious drawing is not to scale, so showing the road wider than it is, there is also what looks like walls next to ops driveway and the house opposite.
Clearly someone needs to do some work on their comprehension skills.

YABU and your darling husband can't drive!

Audi wanker just moved in over the road, rented house with 2 private spaces included. He parks outside my house opposite his front door, despite those of us on this side not having private parking so we can only park on the road.

We were all getting pissed off because parking is carefully done here due to the lack of space. If your space is taken (all unofficial but we all do it!) then you park on the next road that has lots of space next to a field but its schlep especially with kids and shopping. If I manage to park in "my" space, he will park as near as he can, thus nicking someone elses. In the last big storm, a bin was blown into my car. Luckily my car is crap so a dent didnt bother me much, shit happens. Guess who had nicked "my" space, and got a whacking great dent on bin day? :o We havent seen him park out there since Friday although I suspect he will as soon as the wind drops.........

chesterfuckingdrorrs · 17/02/2020 00:18

The parked car is annoying but unless it's on double yellows or there's other signage stating no parking it's legally parked.

Surely DH could reverse onto your drive? Might be a bit tight if your street is ridiculously narrow but it looks entirely doable if you can drive
