To think wind is far worse than rain

This is a lighthearted arguement between my husband and I
He thinks rain is horrid and the worst kind of weather, I disagree and really hate the wind

If it's raining I just put on a good coat with a hood and crack on, when it's really windy it just makes me feel colder and is a pain, even in a good coat.

My dds (4 &2) love the rain, they love getting their suits on and having a splash but when its windy they dont want to go out. Today we popped to tesco but that was it, weve done lots of fun things inside but theyd have loved a walk or bike ride. The youngest would have screamed and cried if I'd taken her out today

My house is an old farmhouse on top of a hill and I've struggled to get it warm today as the wind is hammering it but husband's comment was "much better this than rain"

Aibu?

Prefer wind to rain tbh.

I can cope with wind. Being out in the rain is more likely to make me ill.

BarkandCheese · 16/02/2020 20:19

I agree. I get horrible ear ache if I’m out in the wind for too long plus I worry about get clobbered by wind blown debris. The sound of the rain on the roof is nice and soothing unlike wind. For two days now I’ve been listening to wind whistling down my chimney and it’s starting to drive me slightly mad.

SingingSands · 16/02/2020 20:24

Wind is worse! It makes me feel quite on edge, like I'm waiting on damage to be caused by it. Last week we had two huge oak trees come down behind our house, I was in the kitchen when the second fell and the noise was like a car crash!

mynameisigglepiggle · 16/02/2020 20:26

After my house flooding last week I have to say I think rain is worse!

2020runner · 16/02/2020 20:27

Gosh @SingingSands how awful, weve got a huge tree outside our home. There were two but one blee down a few years ago, I live in fear of this one falling the wrong way. We're not allowed to cut it down though

I can't hear myself think when I'm out in the wind, it's really disturbing. Rain's lovely if you are warm and wrapped up dry.

Don't horses get giddy in the wind? Maybe I was one in a previous life!

user18463585026 · 16/02/2020 20:31

The wind randomly knocking stuff over and making things rattle and howling and roaring and catching doors means I spend windy weather constantly having flashbacks triggered by all the sudden/loud/banging noises. I would rather have only rain on that basis.

Elizadoeslittle19 · 16/02/2020 20:32

I really don't like the sound of the wind and I think the wind will cause more damage.... however I don't live in an area where it floods bad. Yes we've had a few road closures etc but no damage to peoples homes or businesses and the damage I have seen in the press / TV from flooding is horrendous. I don't go out in bad weather (other than school run / work etc) and get food shop delivered. Kids hate going out in weather like this, it's no fun at all.

happycamper11 · 16/02/2020 20:34

Wind is so irritating and inconvenient, everything blowing everywhere, everything is so much more of a battle especially if you work or have commitments outdoors (horses especially as wind sends them crazy).
It's also dangerous when trampolines and wheels bins start flowing themselves around, obviously short of flooding which is also v inconvenient, I agree wind is far worse.

goldenorbspider · 16/02/2020 20:37

Wind gives me ear ache for some strange reason

PickAChew · 16/02/2020 20:40

I think the rain is doing a bloody good job of being the worst, last weekend.

Though I'm slightly enjoying that the ridiculously located building site of the council's new HQ has flooded. That's precisely why it's been playing fields and car park for all these years!

PickAChew · 16/02/2020 20:40

This weekend.

Iwantmychairback · 16/02/2020 20:48

Was worried about wind causing damage last weekend, turns out that the rain caused a whole lot more damage. Hate both of them. When 5gey come together , I am a nervous wreck.

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 16/02/2020 20:52

Rain is worse, it has destroyed our town plenty times.

MaddieElla · 16/02/2020 20:55

Selfishly, I hate wind more because I'm a runner and 16 miles today in gale force winds was horrific. It lashed it down too but it kept me cool.

In terms of damage during storms, both are horrendous but we get more rain than we do strong winds.

Tellmetruth4 · 16/02/2020 21:04

I can’t sleep as the wind is so noisy. I’ve seriously had enough.

PanicAndRun · 16/02/2020 21:08

YABU.

Wind I can handle. As long as I'm dry. If I'm inside I actually like listening to it. Cold ,wet, snappy, freezing rain can go fuck itself. No matter how bundled up I am it still gets in, it covers up my glasses and somehow drips somewhere. If I'm unlucky enough to have been caught out in inappropriate clothes it gives me a special type of cold that seeps into my bones and there's no way I'm getting warm again unless I'm taking a boiling bath. I hate rain.

TheNoodlesIncident · 16/02/2020 21:18

My garden used to flood so extreme rain was bad... but I got the drainage sorted out so it's less of a pain.

On the other hand, I've got a Magnolia "Genie" that's now half the size it was, when one trunk snapped off in high winds. The sight of it lying on the lawn, covered thickly in flower buds, just about broke my heart. Then the wind blew over DS's trampoline (which is tethered to the fence now) and crashed it into Cornus kousa "Summer Fun" which we had driven across the country to buy, as it is only available in a few nurseries. A large branch broke and we had to bind it up with DH's self amalgamating tape, hoping it will graft itself or otherwise heal. I don't know if it will but fingers crossed...

Feckin hate high winds. The number of robust looking trees that come down unexpectedly is frightening. We lost one from the verge outside our house, had to call the council to come and remove it as it was lying across the access to the road. But someone had a huge beech crash into their front garden and onto a car parked there, so much worse. It's horrible having to go out, feels quite risky as you just can't tell.

And the people who are killed, so tragic. Sad

You0401 · 16/02/2020 21:24

As a teacher, I can say with confidence that nothing affects children's behaviour more than a windy day! They turn FERAL after a windy play time Shock

HollysBush · 16/02/2020 21:33

Lightheartedly, YANBU, wind is worse. But....have you not seen the news about the flooding in Wales today??

Doobigetta · 16/02/2020 21:36

Wind is definitely the worst weather.

WarrenNicole · 16/02/2020 21:37

Wind and rain at the same time is the worst!

PumpkinP · 16/02/2020 21:43

Yanbu, I was saying this the other day, I hate wind, I would rather it rain. Wind really unsettles me. Especially the other day when it was extremely windy.

BurMaMa2 · 16/02/2020 21:56

I live on my barge on a fast flowing tidal river. Wind is far worse than rain. Wind throws around, and sometimes destroys the pontoon access. Heavy vessels get tossed about and their mooring lines get trapped between the vessel and the mooring cleat. The lines get rubbed through and the vessel starts to destroy the pontoon. Wind can be so strong that I get blown about walking up to the shore. I've been living afloat for a long time - the positives far outweigh the negatives!
