AIBU to be really worried about the Boris Johnson/Dominic Cummings government?

They really, really worry me the way they go after those who voice concerns, and don't cheer for their lies. I've been watching the footage from the cabinet meeting of everyone cheering Johnson's numbers on nurses and hospitals. The BBC (and others) have pointed out these numbers are false, Johnson is now after the BBC. They also have the judiciary in their sights. I made a bet with my son recently that they will withdraw us from the European Court of Human Rights. They will use deporting foreign born criminals as a trojan horse to argue for this. The thing that scares me the most is that the public will cheer for all of this.

We expect so little of each other nowadays. No wonder a liar, creep and chauvinist like Johnson can attain high office with our low standards.

Alsohuman · 17/02/2020 20:39

Sabisky has resigned.

I was thinking about this last night. I have always thought that with each new line that is crossed their supporters will drop away. I see now how wrong I was. I never understood why Brexit voters aren't furious about the lies they were told and the fact the Brexit we're getting is a million miles from the one promised. You know the "they didn't know what they voted for" view. I was always waiting for the scales to fall from their eyes. I think I was wrong, it's my eyes the scales have finally fallen from.

Brexit/BJ/Cummings voters did know exactly what they voted for, I realise that now. I think they DO want this, they want an authoritarian government, removed from scrutiny or judicial oversight. They want foreigners removed, and I bet any money the withdrawal of the UK from ECHR will be a day of huge celebration for them, just think how much the Daily Mail and their like hate human rights and think certain types don't deserve human rights.

I feel even more depressed about the future and think the direction of travel is really chilling.

Scares me too.

This country will be a pound shop USA in a few years.

All PMs have their advisors, and their influence is speculation on behalf of the media.
Harold Wison - Marica Williams
Margaret Thatcher - ALan Walters
Tony Blair - Alistair Campbell
Gordon Brown - Damien McBride
Theresa May - Nick Timothy and Fiona Hill
It is the PM who decides, and he can be voted out at the next election

Well the chance was there on 12 December to get them out. Are the British Public suddenly waking up to the fact that the Tories aren’t quite the lark that they thought they were, if so. Its far far far too late in the day now. We’ve got at the very least another 4 years of this shit. Britain is a Tory loving island. We wanted the Tory Government they’ve got one. I know not everyone voted for them but a majority did. It’s a case of suck it up now, I’m afraid.

ThisIsBigMoon · 19/02/2020 16:17

The problem is they don’t care what we think.

bingbangbing · 19/02/2020 16:22

We got the government we deserve

The thing is though, I think they are happy with it, they DID know what they were getting. I follow a number of Leave and Tory groups on FB, I have not seen a single word of criticism of the views of Andrew Sabisky, only support.

The lies that these 2 seem to get away with are astonishing. PM Cummings (he is the one in charge, after all) has seen it work for Trump and now its happening over here. It's very worrying indeed and I just don't understand why people can't see through it.

Christ, that’s seriously depressing.

Like I said, I think the scales have finally fallen from my eyes. A great number of people absolutely agree with Andrew Sabisky. Number 10 would have been well aware of his thinking before he was appointed, they didn't criticise or contradict his opinions and he wasn't sacked. I've see no drop in support or BJ/Tories over him appointment.

What’s the latest on the Jennifer Arcuri investigation? This seem to have gone very quiet. Very odd, given the nature and the seriousness of the allegations.

KenDodd · 19/02/2020 18:00

What were the allegations?

HappydaysArehere · 19/02/2020 18:24

Boris is a bully and a fantasist.
Cummings is a control freak.
Am I worried? Yes I am.

Figmentofmyimagination · 19/02/2020 23:30

The allegations are that when Johnson was sleeping with Arcuri, he used his influence as London Mayor to secure places for her tiny company on international trade missions without declaring a personal interest. And that he enabled her company to secure uk taxpayer funding even though it wasn’t trading in the uk.

Figmentofmyimagination · 19/02/2020 23:38

Johnson denies that the relationship was sexual (but not that he failed to declare an interest). He was visiting her flat (complete with pole-dancing pole in the living room) for IT lessons. He is Teflon man. You couldn’t make it up.
