About babies in hot tub?

Went away for a spa weekend with the OH to a fairly upmarket golf/spa hotel. Package included treatment, spa time, lunch, dinner, overnight in a suite and breakfast and all in, cost over £350.

I should add that enquired recently about having a spa day there with my almost 14 year old and was told that whilst the swimming pool is occasionally open to children, spa facilities and treatments are for over 16s only to 'preserve the adult atmosphere'.

I was aware that the pool was open to children (hotel guests and members only) whilst we were there as it was a weekend.

We had our spa treatments then went to spend time in the spa. When we got there, the hot tub was completely filled with parents and babies. One tiny one floating in an inflatable thing, one about 6/7 months old, and a toddler. They monopolised it for about an hour and a half. The toddler was also at times running around the spa area/other hydro pool/sauna etc.

I did raise this with staff as we left (they were still in there!) and they did immediately go to address it. I didn't want to speak to staff until I left as it would have been obvious it was me, and I wasn't in the mood for confrontation.

AIBU to think this is a) really selfish behaviour b) really unhygienic given they were all just in disposable swim nappies and the temperature of a hot tub would encourage bacterial growth from any leaked poo etc and c) that hot tubs are too hot for little babies and this was really irresponsible?

Or am I just being a mardarse because I didn't want to be surrounded with other people's kids on my romantic weekend? Grin

YANBU it isn’t permitted and is surely too hot for the babies anyway?!

WinterCat · 16/02/2020 18:43

At least they were in swim nappies! I think the staff should have been aware and picked up on it at the time.

RoomR0613 · 16/02/2020 18:43

YABU. You should have told the staff sooner Grin

On everything else YANBU. I would have been visibly twitching with annoyance in the same situation.

RandomMess · 16/02/2020 18:44

I thought it was too hot for young children...

YANBU it's either over 16 or not...

AriadnesFilament · 16/02/2020 18:47

You should have told them straight away.

Swim nappies (apparently) only contain poo, not wee btw.

Welshmaenad · 16/02/2020 18:52

In my experience they don't contain liquid poo either, so the 2/3 month old would have infected the whole tub if it had pooed. I used happy nappies over disposables with my two and am surprised they are t required everywhere.

I know I could have gone to the staff but me trekking off to reception then them being kicked out would have made me a right target for snark and I just didn't want the aggro.

Wow you're not even meant to go in a hot tub while pregnant, surely it's way too hot for a baby! Yanbu

crispysausagerolls · 16/02/2020 18:56

The nappy/poo issue would bother me a lot less than 1) it being too hot for a baby and that making me irritated that the parents don’t give a fuck and 2) the noise and the atmosphere.

But I’m knee deep in nappies and poo constantly so probably just me 😁

SleepingStandingUp · 16/02/2020 18:57

I'm not sure I'd have an issue per se but those things normally run for X minutes then you get out and someoen se gets in and restarts it so at the very least they were unreasonable to monopolise it, and I'd say that if it was Baby Club, lads weekend or watery lovers

Cyberlibre · 16/02/2020 19:00

Yanbu to be annoyed at the parents.

Yabu to be annoyed at the spa who couldn't have known unless someone had made them aware.

RhymingRabbit3 · 16/02/2020 19:15

You should have said something earlier but YANBU.

CatsMother66 · 16/02/2020 19:15

We had a hot tub when DS was little and as a toddler, we let him use it as he loved it. One day, whilst the two of us were in it I looked around and thought the water looked a bit cloudy. I then realised that my little one had done a poo in his swim nappy which had leaked. Due to the pump and jets it only took a few seconds to disperse the lot and i found myself bathing in poo soup!
You are definitely NBU to want them out. The hotel would thank you for telling them as the clean up operation after took ages.

TheyDoDoThat · 16/02/2020 19:31

This would really piss me off. Some Parents treat spas as a heated baby pool. Completely selfish me me mine behaviour.

Shoxfordian · 16/02/2020 19:41

You should have gone to reception immediately and told them

VeryBowie · 16/02/2020 19:51

Yeah this is pretty grim...never seen this happen before but you really should have reported this straightaway to the staff. Surely a hot tub isn't the safest place for a baby!?
I have to admit I do find it strange when parents take young children to a spa. I'm sure there are other more suitable places to take young children! Nothing worse when you are trying to unwind and there's a gaggle of screaming kids practising their bombs in the pool.

Thislittlepiggywentto · 16/02/2020 19:54

Exact same happened to me today. To the point where I'm wondering if we were at the same place.

kingkuta · 16/02/2020 19:56

I think its really piss poor of the hotel to have not noticed and addressed this immediately. Why were there no staff in the pool area?

TheWordmeister · 16/02/2020 20:00

I'd have been straight to reception!

Hot tubs at a spa are for adults to relax in - not a big baby bath. I'd have been most annoyed.

Welshmaenad · 16/02/2020 20:49

@Thislittlepiggywentto if you were in the Welsh Valleys we may well have been!

OP posts:
Welshmaenad · 16/02/2020 20:51

@kingkuta because the member of staff who should have been poolside was standing in reception gossiping. You can however see the hot tub from the window at reception so I was a bit cheesed off at the lack of attention being paid.

VivaLeBeaver · 16/02/2020 20:52

Saw this at centre Parcs the other week. Big signs saying no under 5s and it was full of babies in swim nappies which obviously don’t contain wee. Nice.

TheGirlWithAPrince · 16/02/2020 21:15

Hot tubs are too hot for me let alone babies :0 nooooo that's like putting a baby into a steam/hot room
