To eat cheese every day?

Bumblebee1784 · 16/02/2020 16:19

I love cheese. I could quite happily live on cheese. I eat it every single day in some form. Love most cheese -- cheddar, brie, mozzarella, feta, Gouda, Wensleydale, etc.

Lunch most days consist of cheese and bread. The last two weeks, I've had cheddar and cucumber sandwiches, cheddar and tomato sandwich, cheese and pickle roll, cheese and chutney roll, cheese salad wrap, ham & cheese toasted sandwich, mozzarella/tomato/pesto toasted sandwich. For variety, I've also had pesto pasta with feta a couple of times, and cheese & crackers Grin

All of this is accompanied by salad or crudités, and fruit. I rarely eat meat, but have tuna or egg on occasion as well. In the winter, I have a lot of soup with cheese toasties and in summer, cheese salads. I absolutely adore cheese. Overall, my diet is quite balanced with nuts, oats, vegetables, olive oil, yoghurt, hummus, most food is homemade, blah blah blah. Few treats thrown in for good measure. However, I'm addicted to cheese, always have been. As a family, we go through a lot of cheese (DH takes cheese sandwiches to work every day, toddler and baby also have it most days for lunch). Easily spend £10-15 on cheese a week.

Having a debate with a friend and she's insistent that having cheese every day is wrong as it's fattening. For context, I'm 8 stone exactly. Friend only eats crappy plastic reduced fat cheese once or twice a week which is all kinds of wrong.
She also thinks it's boring. Cheese comes in so many lovely varieties and is so versatile.

Clearly I'm right and she's wrong?? 😇

I love cheese. My baby has CMPA so for now I can’t eat it. You can have my share for now. I miss cheese so much. I’m hoping I don’t have lactose intolerance when I’m finished bf. I will be devastated.

Bouncebacker · 16/02/2020 20:37

Cheese is awesome, I eat it everyday. But I would say ditch the carbs that you eat with!

lowlandLucky · 16/02/2020 20:38

I live on cheese , there are very few cheeses i dont like but believe anyone that eats Cornish Yarg is a wrong un

PenguinsOnParade · 16/02/2020 21:17

I love cheese. I could give up meat but I could never give up cheese. Don't think I've had one I don't like, although I did buy a red hot one which I thought was going to kill me but I couldn't stop eating it too.

I have low blood pressure too so I hope that means I can eat a bit more. Grin

I do wish I had some Brie in the fridge right now though as this has made me really want some. Multiple cheeses in the fridge but not any Brie. Tsk.

puds11 · 16/02/2020 21:20

@hibiscuslightening 😱 you life saver! I will have a look and trial some.

BigButtons · 16/02/2020 21:23

I could not live without cheese. Don’t eat sweets, chocolate, biscuits etc. Never have puddings. But cheese is amazing!

FreshFancyFrogglette · 16/02/2020 21:30

£12 a week on cheese 😅. Don't know why but that tickled me for some reason. Cheese budgeting. Other than that, yabu
purely because its a long post for a simple boring thing. Mind u I read, and commented on it, so maybe iabu. Eat what you want, when you want, as long as u are healthy life's too short tgaf about it

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/02/2020 21:36

Cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese.
Just cos.
I don't care how unhealthy it is, most things are.

Gibble1 · 16/02/2020 21:38

My work colleagues are obsessed by the fact that I eat cheese every day for lunch. They always comment that they would be the size of a house if they are as much cheese as I do. BUT, I have 2 slices cheese (I buy the pre sliced stuff and have different varieties) and 2 slices of bread each day. They have a giant salad with dressing then at least 3 types of fruit and a yoghurt and packet of crisps. Far too much food for me!

TweetUsOnFacebook · 16/02/2020 21:53

Yanbu. My favourite snack is a sliced apple with slices of cheddar. I get extra mature so need less for my cheese 'hit'. On special occasions I add some pork pie.

I recently discovered Applewood cheese. Delicious with wheat crackers and pickle.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 16/02/2020 22:10

Just go keto Grin

OP YABU...to listen to anyone dissing your love of cheese!! See what I did there...

Your diet sounds really varied, and I don't blame you for loving cheese, I absolutely love blue cheese and brie. However I am not 8 stone so can't get away with eating it every day! You keep enjoying your cheese girl Grin

Defenbaker · 17/02/2020 00:07

YANBU, your cheese heavy diet clearly works for you so don't worry what anyone else thinks.

I'm similar, in that I eat cheese most days, and it's my main protein source as I prefer it to meat. I sometimes struggle to eat 5 fruit and veg each day, but given the chance could happily eat 5 cheese servings a day! ☺ However, I'm about 20 pounds overweight, due to comfort eating through a stressful few years, so I try not to be greedy with my cheese (and chocolate) intake.

I don't believe in demonising any food just because it's high in fat, but obviously for anyone who is overweight, it's wise to eat such things in moderation.

Hannah9176 · 17/02/2020 00:11

Can't believe I opened this 7 minutes past the cut off for amending my online food shop, just realised I've not ordered Wensleydale with cranberry. Devastated.

Bubblemonkey · 17/02/2020 06:55

Anything in excess is fattening. Cheese is quite high in calories, which makes it easier to overeat but if you’re 8st, I really don’t think you’ve got an issue

SallyWD · 17/02/2020 07:14

Every day? That's nothing, I often have it for every meal! Cheese and onion toasty is my favourite breakfast.

HeronLanyon · 17/02/2020 07:32

Last night I had cheese and crackers and sliced apple for dinner. The trouble is that I managed to eat a whole port salut (one of those pré packed portions). I do this perhaps every other month (I eat cheese frequently but this ‘whole packet happens every now and then). It was just so good and I had the perfect cracker. Been thinking fat-wise it’s less than eg if I had had a baked Camembert as part of a meal (not that I ever do). Hmmm
Somehow despite fréquent cheese eating it doesn’t affect my weight seemingly.
Love all cheeses.

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 17/02/2020 07:40

Another cheese fanatic here. I adore cheese - all types of cheese although not that keen on goats cheese .

I esp. love melted cheese. I have a cheese baker which makes lovely gooey camembert. Sometimes for a snack I just break up crackers (Finn crisp are preferreds) on a plate, cover with sliced mature cheddar, sprinkle with Worcester sauce and melt in the microwave.

I have cheese for breakfast and will always choose cheese over a dessert.
If you're only 8st you have nothing at all to be concerned about.
