Aldi baby food.... aibu?

I don't use aldi pouches all the time so to the Annabel Karmel wannabes I am giving my child the correct nourishment. I also do a mix of puree and finger food.

Having said this, I find the pouches handy for on the go, GPs etc but my baby is now 9mo and I've noticed there's no 'stage 3' baby food in my aldi (ever). There's stage 1 (6m+), stage 2 (7m+) then it goes to stage 4 (12m+). Surely this suggests there should be a stage 3.

My baby is ready to move onto slightly lumpier food but not sure he's ready for 12m+ food.

Any ideas anyone?

Use a different brand? Ellas kitchen are good.

GrumpyHoonMain · 15/02/2020 18:24

You could just buy 12m and mash it up a bit more.

dementedpixie · 15/02/2020 18:25

What age is your baby?

Jenpop234 · 15/02/2020 18:26

Just mash up your own dinner. Save yourself money and faff. A 9 month old can eat most things adults do.

FoamingAtTheUterus · 15/02/2020 18:28

Jenpop, did you not read the ops post ? Confused

Russell19 · 15/02/2020 21:57

I do mash up my dinners too but like I said, they are handy for on the go or when I'm not really having much. Especially in the day.

maybe the stages are more a general industry standard and aldi just don't deem stage 3 different enough to cater for

could you get the stage 4 and mash it a bit for on the go?

Amatteroftime · 15/02/2020 22:27

Many other places do stage 3, just grab them elsewhere

mizzles · 16/02/2020 00:30

Is it worth just trying the stage 4 food at home and seeing how it goes? Is there much difference between stage 2 and 4? If he can manage finger food, there's no particular reason why he couldn't cope with lumpy but soft food, I would have thought.

WisteriaPurple · 16/02/2020 00:44

Just feed him real food, whatever you're having. Cannot understand this fashion for feeding infants what is effectively ready meals. I'd never eat them so don't expect baby to.

Asda’s range are a lot better and a reasonable price if you’ve one near, they definitely have a stage 3 (10 month +?).

namechangin · 16/02/2020 01:24

If it's just for when you're out and about so not often can he stay on 7+ a little longer? Otherwise Morrison's, ASDA, Tesco, coop, and I think Lidl and spar sell 10+

Sh05 · 16/02/2020 01:43

At my local Aldi they do there own baby food plus a different company one, not sure of the exact brand, something like Aisha. I only ever see stage 3 meals in this brand. Never tried them but maybe you could look out for them

oncemorewithfeeling99 · 16/02/2020 01:45

Feed lumpy stuff at home, keep the Aldi ones out and about. Don't worry too much about the age designations. Your baby will cope fine with a few smooth purees a week.

Russell19 · 16/02/2020 05:19

Thanks for those really helpful replies. I'm going to look in asda to see what they have got.

@alohamore I have got those resealable pouches (not sure if it's that make) but I found them difficult to clean but I might have another go.

For occasional use, even the stage one pouches won’t hurt. If you are giving normal food at home, you’ll probably find he is absolutely fine with 12mth+ already.

As you find the reusable pouches a faff to clean, you can just put your own food in a small Tupperware pot and spoon feed.
