Hard-boiled eggs - ok to eat?

I hard-boiled some eggs on Wednesday morning then totally forgot about them, and they've been sitting on the kitchen counter ever since.

Would I be ok to turn them into egg mayo sandwiches for lunch, or am I risking food poisoning/certain death because they're now quite old and haven't been kept in the fridge?

Sorry, I know this isn't an AIBU but I need a quick answer as lunchtime is approaching!

I boil five at a time and then eat one a day, they don't go in the fridge either. They've not made me ill so far!

I haven’t any specific knowledge one way or the other, but my instinct is a firm “don’t“. You could try peeling them, at which point I suspect you’ll find they stink to high heaven and you won’t be even a little bit tempted to try and eat them!

No!! 🤢

Likethebattle · 15/02/2020 12:21

Nooo! They need to be kept in the fridge

Stickybeaksid · 15/02/2020 12:22

They will be grand. I would eat them. I don’t keep my eggs in the fridge so it wouldn’t bother me

It will be immediately obvious when you peel them whether they are still good or not. Animal products really let your nose know when they are off.

You boiled them in sealed container (the shell) killing most germs, then left them in their sealed container. They won't go off quickly.

I noticed DH pilfered two last night and there don't seem to be any ill effects this morning - but maybe it's too risky!

If they smell alright they’re fine. Eggs let you know pretty clearly when they’re not ok.

Rockingham1 · 15/02/2020 12:46

They’ll be fine

LIZS · 15/02/2020 12:47

In Europe you can buy boxes of preboiled eggs, not stored in a chiller.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 15/02/2020 13:06

We carry hard-boiled eggs with us when we drive across Europe as lunch-time snacks and they are fine on the fifth day, getting a bit tired by the sixth, starting to have slimy soft bits by the seventh. So we aim to eat them on or before day 5.

SterlingViolet · 15/02/2020 14:23

I'd have no problem eating them.
And as other PPs have said, the smell will let you know!

Winterwoollies · 15/02/2020 17:24

They will be fine. Honestly.

elizabethdraper · 15/02/2020 17:27

They will be perfect
