Going away tomorrow night for a night of passion. I have just started bleeding. Anyway I can stop it

No.

I've read that high doses of ibuprofen can, but you really wouldn't want to do that without seeking medical advice. Alternatively Norethisterone can stop it but that's a prescription only drug.

A period has never stopped a night of passion for me and DP though!

MayDayHelp · 14/02/2020 21:12

Yep ibufrofen works for me. Take 800mg every 8 hours, make sure you eat something beforehand though.

I know this is over the recommended dose but I used to work for a podiatrist who said It’s almost impossible to OD on ibuprofen, for chronic sports injuries they inject a dose which is thousands of times higher than we’d normally take and it’s fine. However that doesn’t go through their stomach, which is where problems can occur especially if you haven’t got anything lining your stomach.

Alternatively beppy sponges (sponge tampons) work a treat, not sure whether any shops sell them though, I get mine online.

Norethisterone can stop your period, and you can buy it online from Superdrug pharmacy without prescription (possibly from other pharmacies too), I have done this myself in the past. I believe they are £16.99. However, it only works if you take it in the days leading up to your period starting. Once it's actually started you're in it until the end I'm afraid. Sorry if this isn't helpful! See below copied from Superdrug website...Buy Norethisterone 5mg tablets to stop your periods. They take 3 days to start working and last until 3 days after you stop taking them Also, I found that, although you don't have any bleeding, you do still get all the other symptoms like cramps and bloating, and I had the most painful period ever when I finished taking them. I would use them again if having a period was a massive inconvenience, but definitely not just on a whim. Choose your hard I guess!

It's too late for Norethisterone. I've heard about taking ibuprofen but that's not without its usual associated risks and it wouldn't magically stop it by tomorrow night anyway.

FlissMumsnet · 14/02/2020 21:47

Hi Champagnetaste,

Forgive us interrupting but we just want to remind you to seek real life medical advice as we cannot vouch for the efficacy of any advice offered here.

BiscuitBean · 14/02/2020 22:03

Norethisterone can stop a period that’s already started - I misjudged my dates last month and by the time I picked them up from the pharmacy I had already started bleeding. I took them anyway and had stopped bleeding within 12 hours...and I have horrifically heavy periods 🙈

Just be careful if you’re on certain contraceptive pills, or have migraines.

KirstyHasLeft · 14/02/2020 22:22

I used to drink nettle tea. Few cups a day- ideally a day before period and then when the period starts - it stops bleeding. You might have the tiniest amount of bleeding still but really minimal.

Sizeofalentil · 15/02/2020 05:27

You can buy menstrual cups in superdrug and boots now.

Blamangeatrois · 15/02/2020 05:35

I had a stroke and was told oral ibuprofen use was a contributory factor. Just saying, be careful chaps. Don't mess with your health.
