To think I should be able to return these another way?

I bought as pair of shoes as a gift. They're lovely but don't quite fit right but they don't do half sizes so tried to return them. When I tried to return them it turned out that the store had suddenly closed. The next store isn't in the same county as me and will take me 2 hours to get there. I spoke to their customer services and they've said I have to return them to the nearest store. It's now just outside of the 28 days because they've been so unhelpful and I can't do a 4 hour round trip with a 1 year old. The shoes cost a lot of money and I can't afford to just let them sit there collecting dust. What can I do here?

Send them back second class signed for.

Talk to head office customer services. I had similar, having bought a dress from Jigsaw when on holiday in a city far from home, and no branches near me at home. They even sent a free postage label. Make it clear that you tried to return within the 30 days.

DianaT1969 · 14/02/2020 08:18

What did they say when you asked if you could post them?
I didn't quite understand. You mentioned gift. Did you buy them, try them on in the shop, have the receipt and they are completely unworn?

STANTER · 14/02/2020 08:28

I bought them from a shop, as a gift, however they did not fit the recipient so I need to return them. I spoke to customer services and they've said I can't return them via post. I categorically must drive to my nearest store which is a 2 hour drive away. They closed the store within 12 days of me buying them and only gave the staff a few days notice so nobody had any idea the store was closing

They're completely unworn. Just tried on once.

There must be another way!

Can you sell them?

MarthasGinYard · 14/02/2020 09:21

I'd EBay them

And never buy shoes as a gift again

Too tricky Wink

BritInUS1 · 14/02/2020 09:25

If they are not faulty you don’t have an automatic right to return them anyway. So you will need to do what the store asks

cravingmilkshake · 14/02/2020 09:27

Just ebay them.

STANTER · 14/02/2020 09:32

Guessing I won't get near what I bought them for on eBay?

doritosdip · 14/02/2020 09:32

Many shops won't refund worn unfitted shoes unless there's a manufacturing fault. Best to sell them yourself.

STANTER · 14/02/2020 09:33

They would've accepted a return they just closed the shop and I had no alternative

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 14/02/2020 09:34

No, probably not. It will depend on the shoe but you’ll have to take into account that people happy to pay full price will do it from the shop and get the rights associated with that.

You don’t have a legal right to return them if they’re not faulty, so there doesn’t need to be another way for you to return them. They are able to say that they want them returned in person. Have they agreed that if you take them back soon, they’ll honour the return even though it’s over 28 days? If not, you might be stuck with them anyway.

STANTER · 14/02/2020 09:36

They have but in reality I have a full time job and a 1 year old and don't think I'll be able to make the journey anytime soon. Doubt I'll get much for them flogging them online.

they would likely only offer a credit note/store credit after the 28 days.....clocks ticking so i'd make the trip if they were a few hundred pounds. less than £200 i would just resell on eBay

you will likely get to store and be offered store credit....what will you do then?

nancy75 · 14/02/2020 09:42

This is very unhelpful of the company considering the closest store closed.
It seems they are probably not set up to do a return via head office so you won't get anywhere asking for that - you will have to go to the store.
I would contact them again and ask it they can extend the return period by 28 due to the closure of the local store & the long journey you will have to make. That will give you time to arrange a day to take them back.

LoveNote · 14/02/2020 10:26

but she isn't guaranteed to get her cash back
