Just that really!? Anyone ever won big or know anyone who has? I play the lottery and buy the odd scratchcard but never won more then £30! Just wondering if it actually happens to normal people like me lol

I won £64 once!

PooWillyBumBum · 13/02/2020 21:40

The parents of a girl I went to school with won big and moved to the Cayman Islands where they still live happily with a huge circle of rich expat friends, as far as it seems from Facebook!

Personally I’ve never even played, odds are so low I’d rather invest the money or even spend it on wine!

I've won £100 on the Thunderball and last week won £50 on a scratchcard.
I used to play weekly but stopped about 10 years ago and now only have a ticket when it's a "must be won" Jackpot.

katkit · 13/02/2020 22:04

Yes! I know a couple who won a million about twenty odd years ago. They bought a nice house!

Alwaysoverthinkingit34 · 13/02/2020 22:26

200 on a scratch card. A couple a few streets from me won 2 million when the lottery first started and they bought a local restaurant/hotel which they still run

NotMyFinestMoment · 13/02/2020 22:55

The most on a scratch card is £40. The most on a Lotto main game was roughly £2,000 and yesterday £76 on a Euromillions game (not sure which one as ticket was sitting around so not sure how old it is, but probably last month's).

I know someone who won big but they were in a syndicate. Think they still ended up with about £350K each. It enabled them to buy the house of their dreams many years ago, not enough to retire but enough to change their lives.

Darlingsleepthief · 14/02/2020 08:57

£1000 and £250 on scratch cards

SweetMarmalade · 14/02/2020 08:57

The most I won on the lottery was £400 on ‘I think’ a lottery Hot Picks ticket. I did manage to cash it in at Morrison’s!

I no longer have a lottery ticket, my Mum’s dh puts me a NY or Irish (can’t remember which) bet on at the bookies each week.

SerenDippitty · 14/02/2020 09:00

No. Was in a work syndicate of about 15 for 10 years, we never won anything big. Got £78 when it was disbanded though.

Zenithbear · 14/02/2020 09:02

It's so hard to win now there are too many numbers, I rarely bother. Occasionally if I remember and when it has to be won. I also think that the money should be split so that lots of people could win a good chunk of money instead of one person getting millions.
I stick to premium bonds as I regularly get a few small prizes and still have a chance of getting life changing but not ridiculous amounts of money.

delorisvancartier · 14/02/2020 09:05

I won £1000 many years ago on a scratch card when I was 17, at the time it felt like I was set up for life! I bought a Nokia 3310, treated my friends to bits and bobs & went on holiday on my first girls trip abroad to Ibiza. Happy days!

Bluewater1 · 14/02/2020 09:08

£25 on a scratch card. I was a student and pretty brassic at the time so it was a good day Grin

PrincessHoneysuckle · 14/02/2020 09:10

I know someone who won the lottery. My 98 yr old Gran when she was alive. She used to use the same numbers but did it "for fun" so she never bought a ticket 🙄 She told us one day that all her numbers had come up.My dad still refuses to acknowledge this as it's too painful Grin

LEELULUMPKIN · 14/02/2020 09:13

I don't do the main lottery now it has changed, but put the money in a tin instead.

However, DH and I holiday in the US 3 times a year and do buy "scratch offs" as they call them over there.

We regularly win on them, the best being $500 last time we were there.

As soon as we cash them in though we buy USA gift cards for the supermarket/restaurants/shops we frequent whilst we are there and save them for the next visit, which is great knowing that a good chunk of our future spends are already paid for.

Nat6999 · 14/02/2020 09:23

We won £250k on the thunderball in our syndicate at work in 2003, got nearly £15k each.

longtompot · 14/02/2020 14:10

I am assuming it was a lottery win, but when I was in Waitrose a few days ago, an elderly chap walked past me towards his wife and said I thought I’d only won £10, but I’ve won £100! It was lovely to hear the surprise in his voice. Made me smile.
We’ve won the odd few pounds and many free draw tickets, but nothing big sadly. I don’t know anyone who has won anything big.

IJustCantDeal · 14/02/2020 16:15

I’ve never won more than £100 on a scratch card but my grandma won 1.4million on the lottery two weeks ago and a friend won 2million 5years ago. I personally don’t play very often
