To demand that GROWN is recognised as a colour.

My 13 year old has just discovered (how...!!) that my 16 year old and I both have hazel eyes.

However she is demanding that the word Hazel is removed from the eye colour chart and replaced with grown (to rhyme with brown) which is “more accurate and not wrong” (unlike hazel which is inaccurate and wrong)

My Dd, then aged about 7 rejected all names for her eye Colour except for Amber. And she was right. But they aren’t hazel, they are a yellow /orange /brown.

Yelorgbrun - hard G, German sounding end. She’s good at German.

She's being utterly ridiculous. It's obviously Grege. Or possibly Brey. Grayzle?

RustyBear · 13/02/2020 17:51

But hazel as a description isn't 'inaccurate and wrong' - hazel nuts are brown and surrounded by green bracts, and the buds when they are emerging are a mixture of brown and green, so it's entirely appropriate!
Sorry, minibathsheba! (But knickerstickers is genius!)

Namechanger001 · 13/02/2020 17:52

How about mine that I describe as olive green. They are the same ugly green as green olives. I don’t know why skin colour olive is called that as olives are black or green. Am I correct or would she have a better description?

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 13/02/2020 18:05

When she away here dry can move on to skin colours....

Isleepinahedgefund · 13/02/2020 18:20

This made me chuckle - my DD is also particularly particular!

I agree with her - grown would be useful in our family.

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 13/02/2020 18:21

@lingwayoff - I have checked. She absolutely does not mean Breen....!!!

PlanDeRaccordement · 13/02/2020 19:22

Take your children to see a real hazel in the spring sunshine and you’ll see the colours of it exactly match hazel eyes.
