AIBU to want veterinary advice?

Long story short.
Vet confirmed the female kitten I bought was indeed a female also not pedigree, Domestic shorthair. Cat was booked in today to be neutered as she is desperate to go outside and I didn't want her to get randomly pregnant and endanger her health at such a young age. Approx 5 months.
Receive a call from the vet today. Female cat is a boy, testicles removed and ovaries searched for? Cat is actually a different breed than they thought. Pedigree cat is not a Domestic Shorthair but a British Blue. Surely I should have been notified before my cat went through 2 operations (3 if you count the microchip I also requested). Can this really happen? My poor boy.

We had a (very fluffy) cat when I was a child which we took to the vet to get spayed. They opened her up and couldn't find the right bits to take out, then realised she was a he. Somehow nobody had noticed - not the original owner, not us, not the vet. So the poor thing ended up with 2 procedures that day.

The funniest bit was, we had already had her for some time and had named her, so we didn't want to change her name after we found out she was a he. So that's how we ended up with a burly tomcat named Sheba 😂

A friend of my mum's had a cat who was supposed to be a girl but turned out to be a boy; he went through life as Fiona.

@SaskiaRembrandt I'm kind of glad to hear Sheba isn't the only cat to have gone through an identity crisis Grin He was such a muscular, handsome specimen too.

Checked the paperwork I signed. I agreed to spay and microchip only.
Check up with new bet tomorrow as, although he was given a clean bill of health, I have lost all faith in that practice.
