Just wondering if it looks like it's healing normally, been around 32 hours since tooth extraction. Is it normal or do you think it needs looking at?

Yep looks fine. That gunky stuff in it is granulation tissue, it protects the wound while it heals underneath. You want to leave it alone if possible. I found that cotton buds dipped in toothpaste were good for cleaning the teeth on either side without disturbing it.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 12/02/2020 20:05

Unsure. Bit yellow. Should be starting to hurt less. How does it feel?

ilovenaps · 12/02/2020 20:06

I thought it might be normal but not sure as obviously not a dentist. It's my partners, he's been taking paracetamol all day. Took ages to remove and the dentist was pulling for ages and there was a massive cracking noise. His jaw hurts all the way up to his eye socket

Hi op, I dont think it looks quite right, I got a back tooth pulled yesterday at 2pm so just over 30 hours ago. Apart from a bit of tenderness around the immediate area, I have no other pain. I have took a photo so hopefully it will post so you can see the comparison.

Porkeypine · 12/02/2020 20:30

@CrashBandicoots

That looks like he’s left some tooth still on there? What’s that yellow stuff?

Op I’d give it another couple if days

Alsoco · 12/02/2020 20:34

It does look like granulation tissue but he shouldn’t still be in pain so I’d get an appointment tomorrow just to make sure he’s not in pain over the weekend.

ilovenaps · 12/02/2020 20:35

@CrashBandicoots that looks a lot cleaner! Maybe the stuff on yours is also granulated tissue like another poster suggested? Which tooth did you have removed? This one was an upper molar I think

ilovenaps · 12/02/2020 20:36

@Porkeypine and @Alsoco, I'm starting to think that it is granulated tissue. I'm not sure how long the pain is supposed to last? I don't think the eye socket pain is normal?

OP posts:
Veterinari · 12/02/2020 20:45

The pain is not normal

CrashBandicoots · 12/02/2020 20:47

It was the back bottom tooth. Thats just the tissue healing. It was the blood clot yesterday and when I checked this morning it was that colour. I promise it isnt any yellow food stuck in the socket as I hadnt ate from getting the tooth out until after I had checked it 😁

ilovenaps · 12/02/2020 20:52

@Veterinari do you think it's possibly from having his jaw open so long because the dentist couldn't get his tooth out? He has Ehlers danlos syndrome as well so having his jaw open for so long didn't help.

OP posts:
Bouncer4me · 12/02/2020 21:02

Could the dentist have damaged his jaw? I had lots of cracking noises when I had my tooth removed and I think the dentist took a chunk out of my jaw as I had all kinds of chunks of bone coming out that weren’t part of the tooth.

Wilmalovescake · 12/02/2020 21:04

He will have more pain with the EDS.

ilovenaps · 12/02/2020 21:05

@Bouncer4me that's what I'm worried about. His face is still slightly puffy as well as the pain. It's so bad he wants to take co codomol for his next dose

OP posts:
ilovenaps · 12/02/2020 21:06

@Wilmalovescake I know, but he's had teeth removed before and it's not been like this

OP posts:
Andrews21 · 12/02/2020 21:07

I'm a dentist. It looks normal.

In saying that, if he has a lot of pain, swelling or feels feverish, I would get a review appointment with dentist in morning

ilovenaps · 12/02/2020 21:20

Yeah I think he'll get an appointment. His face is slightly swollen still and just a small amount of pressure on his cheek hurts him @Andrews21

OP posts:
DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 12/02/2020 22:05

Swelling gets worse before it gets better. It will be worse normally around 72hrs after an extraction

The socket looks normal. Pain and swelling 32hrs after an extraction is also normal, he will still be swollen at this stage.

A cracking sound is also fairly normal, as well as small fragments of bone breaking whilst not 'normal' nothing concerning. If the dentist had broken your DHs jaw he would know.

I am a dentist, this all sounds fairly normal. I personally wouldn't say pain and swelling after 32hrs needs a dentist visit unless theres fever, as there's nothing the dentist can do for him. But obviously if you are both worried there is no harm.

KTCHarket · 13/11/2020 20:31

Just wondering what was the outcome with your partner's extraction?

BeautifulandWilfulandDead · 13/11/2020 20:35

That yellow stuff is 'slough'. Necrotic tissue shedding from the wound. Lovely. But not abnormal I think!
