London Theatre £££££

When did West End theatre become so expensive? I've been looking at tickets for Sunday in the Park with George and half way decent seats are £200-£300 each! I understand that it's a limited run and also has the added attraction of Jake Gyllenhaal as a big star but those prices are insane (I went to see him in This is Our Youth 18 years ago and I'm sure tickets were about £30-£40!)

My mum has always said it's not worth going if you're seated in the dress circle but is this really the case? Circle tickets are a bit more realistic at £50ish

Admittedly DH and I haven't been to the theatre in about 10 years (pre DC) so I'm probably super out of the loop of what patrons are willing to pay.

Alright, @Comefromaway, I'm Arthritica again now. Which seems fair enough, given the current state of my knees

@Emmelina £1100 for two people? Where are you looking?! The most expensive I can find is £160 per person for both parts (and £30 per person for cheapest). I sat in the balcony when I went and it was brilliant, and cheap.

I refuse to pay more than £30 for a theatre ticket. I've been to most current West end shows, the view from the balcony is fine and sometimes it's so good I wonder why people bother to pay more to sit elsewhere. I've had cheap seats in the stalls and the dress circle at less popular shows and the view isn't worth the extra money.

Check the theatre website of the show as well. Hamilton tix are cheaper to buy direct than they are through Ticketmaster now.

I've won £10 Hamilton tickets with the lottery. If London's accessible to you it's VERY worth entering the lotteries daily.
Front row seats. Amazing experience.
(it isn't accessible to me often but I'm enough of a superfan not to mind the travel)

Oh no, I didn't mean you to change!

Maybe one of us could be Welcometo the Rock?

I've sucked it up and paid £85 for a front stalls seat early on. More than I like to pay.
Often there is dynamic pricing and closer to the date seats drop again for performances that haven't sold so well.

Emmelina I paid about £300 for dd and I to see HP and the cursed child in perfectly good seats. In half term too!
