To prefer my in laws

My own family of origin can be difficult. Divorced parents who never moved on. Brother and his wife quite demanding with expectations also.

I prefer my DH's family in many ways. Less demanding of me. More accepting, don't tell me what to do . In fact it's given me perspective on my own a bit

Over the years I have become closer to DH's parents but find on here most don't seem to get on with the in laws .

Is it just me or do any others find the parents in law easier than their own? His siblings are easier also

I don't prefer my ILs but I can understand if some people do, after all you don't have decades of history with them which can make some relationships fraught beyond repair.

No, I definitely prefer my own family! We have similar outlooks on life and there is a lot less drama.

I get on so much better with MIL and SIL than I do with my own mother. MIL and I have an enormous amount in common, and she truly sees me for who I am. I've always had a difficult relationship with my mother, who has been covertly emotionally abusive over the years.

Quite a mixture of responses. Seems a lot like luck.

So if you are really lucky you might get nice in laws and parents. You could get one nice one not so much. And unluckiest get both not easy.

Whether in laws or parents maybe having another set gives perspective on the other one. It did for me.
