To ask if you would keep your child off school because of coronovirus?

We got a message from our school that a 'person in the school community' has come into contact with a infected coronovirus person and is now 'self-isolating' for 14 days. Whilst the school considers the risk low, we are told we can keep our child off if we wish.

I have no idea what to do. If we keep DD off, what then? Self-isolate? Surely that must be the only way to completely safeguard yourself but how practical is that?

No idea what to do for the best TBH

What made me laugh are the number of people not on this thread but who are talking to the media saying they'll keep their kids off then listing all their half term plans. The whole point is to quarantine yourself for 14 days.

I'm torn on it really and have to say I would probably keep sending them in. I feel that if PHE felt there was a risk to children then they would force schools to close. This has not been done therefore I would assess they feel the risk is not that great. I'm a nurse I expect to have exposed my family within a month if this spreads quickly. I still cant understand why people who are being tested positive but are otherwise well are being admitted to hospital. The worst place for anyone with this virus who is otherwise well is a hospital as even with correct PPE there is a reasonable risk of nurses or more likely doctors passing it on to multiple vulnerable patients.
