To ask if I should call the vet again?

Hi! So recently our cat has had some rather awful poos with a tiny bit of blood in them. After taking him to the vet, he was prescribed a liquid medication. 4mls twice a day.

Now the first time we gave this to him via syringe he started foaming at the mouth, after calling the vet in a panic he said that's normal when cats taste something they don't like.

Today, we managed to get most of it in the back of his mouth, so he didn't foam much but he did throw it up. Surely there's a better way? Pill form perhaps. The poor cat thinks we are torturing him and I feel terrible. Do you think another call to the vet is in order?

Poor boy! What is the name of the medication he is having?

Could you not put it on top of some warm chicken or something?
Or put it on his paw and let him lick it off (cats hate to be dirty).

He's very fussy, we tried mixing it in with his food but he wasn't interested unfortunately

I would call again and ask if there's an alternative. If he's not keeping it down then there's not much point continuing with fighting him

If your cat has coccidia, ask your vet if they can prescribe Baycox, its more likely to be tolerated.
Also ask them to show you how to wrap a cat and tilt its head back to give liquid meds, then use a syringe and put the medicine behind the tongue 1cc at a time, give him a chance to swallow before you give any more.

The only way I could get my old cat to take liquid medicine was to use a very narrow straw ( off umbongo drinks ) measure the right amount out and very very carefully suck it up , put your finger over one end and the other just past the back of puss's tongue , so he wont be able to taste it and remove your finger
Practice doing this lots with something you dont like the taste of so you can tell as soon as you have sucked a bit to hard ( I used vinegar , blurgh ) obviously dont give the vinegar to the cat !

My cat had bloody poo when I first had him and after taking him to the vet, he just needed worming.

I would definitely ring the vet back. It may be the stress of taking the medicine that has made him sick or he could be intolerant to the medicine itself. I would see if there is an alternative.

I'd go with @GetTheSprinkles idea of putting it on the cat's paw. I used to do that with my first cat. I'd stand at my front door holding her and then suddenly put it on, knowing she'd leap out of my arms and run away. An added bonus was watching her shaking the paw as she ran, before eventually sitting down and washing it off her paw.
