I've bought an item and paid £320 via PayPal.

It's currently in transit (Hermes tracking shows it in transit) but the seller has asked me to mark it as delivered so that the funds will be released to him as they're currently on hold.

I said I'm happy to do it as soon as it's delivered, but the seller wants me to do it now.

Would there be any implications if I do as he's asking?

AIBU to say no and wait until delivery?

If it's the case that it's new sellers that can't draw funds until the item is delivered then maybe they've got such bad feedback for scamming people that they've opened a new account..and another DO NOT MARK AS RECEIVED from me!

Thanks, looks like it'll be "no" to the request.

Oldest trick in the book for sure.

NO! It has MASSIVE SCAM written in big red writing all over it. The item may never appear and the response would be “but you said it had!”

Did you get your parcel OP?

Angelika321 · 13/02/2020 19:55

NOOOOOO!!!!!! Don’t ever, EVER, do this. No matter how friendly/decent/likeable a person seems ... DON’T DO IT. You bought the item in good faith and paid the asking price. Their agreement is to send it to you - in the condition described and in the timeframe specified. It is not your problem if the money hasn’t been released: you are opening yourself up to problems if there is an issue further down the line.

Piffle11 · 13/02/2020 20:50

I’ve seen a lot of new sellers – company sellers that is not private – Can struggle when first starting out as they have issues with PayPal and eBay due to the number of items being sold In a short space of time. I bought a piece of furniture from such a company years ago: I had no problems at all, but after my purchase a lot of buyers were struggling to get their goods delivered and apparently the cash flow problem became a real issue for the vendor. So although this sounds as though this is what happened with your seller – the fact that you have got your parcel shows they were genuine – don’t ever, ever, say you have received something when you haven’t.

@Angelika321 You MUST know the answer to this. Of COURSE you don't say it's been delivered. Not if it hasn't. Why would you?
