and the standing order didn't go out plus a bank charge/fine....and thought welcome to the real world mate, now I'm not paying for everything for you you can learn what it's like to worry about money and have a few sleepless nights

also thought after a couple of months how lazy can you be not to change your address on any thing

I am not a vindictive bitter person, but i think maybe getting to this stage is a good sign?

Just be careful that if he hasn't changed his address details anywhere it's not going to affect your own credit rating....or risk having the bailiffs around

Tortington · 03/09/2007 14:55

yip - would sent future letters return to sender

RGPargy · 03/09/2007 14:55

Ring up the people on the letter and tell them he's moved!

I was still getting letters from my ex-p from debts he accrued in 2004 so in the end i opened the letters and rang up the people and basically told them he'd moved to the USA and to stop writing to him! Works every time! (Oh and it wasn't a lie about moving to the USA).

oh I hadn't thought about not giving it to him...he applied for a credit card on a letter that came for him ready approved so he filled it in and it came back nertner..try again in 6 months..that pleased me too

Erm - being very boring here but isn't it illegal to open mail addressed to another person?

GreebosWhiskers · 03/09/2007 15:16

Just bung it back in the post marked RTS - no longer at this address.

Dunno about it being illegal - I think if it's delivered to your address it's okay to open it so you can contact the sender & tell them the addressee has moved (tho' don't quote me on that). It's up to the addressee to tell all his creditors etc that he has moved.

zippitippitoes · 03/09/2007 15:24

I opened it because it might have related to the business and no return address on the envelope to send back is there

well if it is addressed to another person - it is illegal.

you strickly shouldnt open it - he doesn't live there any more - put return to sender on enveloope and put backin mail box.

inform the royal mail that there is no such person living at your address

and write a letter to your ex - if youhave his address - which i guess you have as you have a rent letter - but rent letter addressed to your house? anyway - write him and tell him youhave informed the royal mail and that it is strictly unacceptabe for him to be applying for credit cards etc at your address

i would also inform the electoral register

the electoral register people may have some other information as to what you should do to protect yourself.

zippitippitoes · 03/09/2007 15:30

he is still a director of my business..not that he has ever done naything at all to do for it..taking his name of that now as he is obviously not coming back

the letter was from the building society

You're probably right FCH. I, however, was sick and tired of getting stuff for ex-p 3 years after he buggered off and it was the only way i got the letters to stop!

zippitippitoes · 03/09/2007 15:58

he did actually tell me that if a credit card came for him to cut it up so i think opening his post is legitimate just in case
