Why name them?

Why are they naming people who have the virus? It’s as if they are blaming them for catching a disease. And yet some criminals can’t be named because of their human rights!!

Good point!

Redglitter · 11/02/2020 18:19

Possibly to try and make it easier to identify who may have had contact with them

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 11/02/2020 18:19

I did think that but didn’t the main guy come forward to alert others that may have been in contact with him and may need to get checked?

slipperywhensparticus · 11/02/2020 18:20

Is it just in case they have missed someone they have been in contact with? So if jo blogs has it you can ring up and say I'm jo blogs secret girl and they can treat you and everyone you have had contact with?

ProclivitiesMcManus · 11/02/2020 18:21

I'd say it's private medical information, and the press are on thin legal ice here.

speakout · 11/02/2020 18:23

I thought the same thing OP.

By naming them?Confused
No. It's so people can do "crap. That's Gray! I made out with him 4 days ago!" and such.

WalkingDeadTrainee · 11/02/2020 18:28

Which criminals can't be named?

WorraLiberty · 11/02/2020 18:30

It's so people can work out if they've had recent contact with them Confused

And most adult criminals are named.

mnthrowaway202020 · 11/02/2020 18:33

The “super spreader” in question released a statement so he essentially exposed himself and gave up his anonymity

eeyore228 · 11/02/2020 18:33

I would say for contact purposes. Very difficult to treat someone for coronavirus if the patient thinks there is zero chance of them having it!

ALongHardWinter · 11/02/2020 18:43

Yes,I wondered about the logic behind this. I would imagine they obtain the sufferers permission though? Maybe it's so that anyone who has been in contact with them can come forward.

Which criminals can't be named?

Where to do so would reveal the identity of a vulnerable child, either where the child is the criminal (eg the Bulger killers) or where naming an adult criminal would inevitably identify a child victim (eg abuse within a family).

See that's what I thought. This is done for safety of underaged. Which is fine and understandable🤷
(We shall not get into how many times can one be provided with new identity..)
