DP sneezing

AIBU to want to murder him every time he sneezes?

It's so loud I can hear it from OUTSIDE THE HOUSE. If I'm sitting next to him it's genuinely painful.

He claims he can't sneeze more quietly, but this is bullshit, right?!

I get so angry at my husband doing his attention seeking loud sneezes. He says he can't help it but I said if you were in a job interview would you sneeze like that? and he said no of course not. Then you can help it. Likewise coughing loudly right outside the room with a sleeping child in. Confused If I need to sneeze or cough I can stifle it till i'm further away and then let it out. I don't just loudly and thoughtlessly erupt at any moment regardless of who it will disturb, then act really confused and hurt when people point out it was totally unnecessary. He also apparently can't whisper and if I try to whisper something or be discreet will say loudly 'why are you speaking like that, I can't hear you' drawing as much attention to the situation as possible. Angry

It's like living with Dom fucking Jollys phone man. Grin

Maybe he’s trying not to piss himself. That was my mother’s excuse.

Purpleartichoke · 10/02/2020 22:52

I can muffle about half of my sneezes. It causes me great pain to do so, but I do try to do it when I feel it coming and am not alone. The other half either catch me by surprise or are so forceful that I can’t stop them. They hurt my own ears, but there is nothing I can do about it. Almost always come in groups too for extra fun.

Geekster1963 · 10/02/2020 22:53

My DH does this, really irritating. He’s coughing at the moment all I hear through the entire house is cough, cough, sniff every minute. I know he can’t help it but I just want to scream ‘shut up’.

TubbyPony · 10/02/2020 22:55

My ex does this. Reason 52897 to celebrate my 12th year single. I'm adding it to the list right now Grin

I used to work with a Performance Sneezer. Perfectly nice woman but it was alway “Aaaaaaahhhhh-cheeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwww, oh my goodness me!!”

I wanted to feed her face into the shredder every fucking time.

SecretWitch · 10/02/2020 22:58

I want to kick my dh in the shins every time he loud sneezes. It scares the cats and pisses me off,

ToPlanZ · 10/02/2020 23:06

I sneeze loudly and frequently sneeze more than once. I can't help it, it's not a performance or for attention, it's just naturally the way I sneeze. Also it can be dangerous to stifle sneezes. Quite surprised by the lack of tolerance for a basic bodily function, seems somehow mean to criticise someone whose body works in a slightly different fashion to one's own.

My record is 13 sneezes in a row and I nearly passed out. Sorry all but they were involuntary!

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 10/02/2020 23:08

We used to live about a 2 minute walk from bus stop.
Dp used to catch first bus (4.20) to work.
I once woke up to a god awful distant noise...yes it actually woke me up!
I text DP to ask if he just sneezed. He replied 'how did you hear that, I am at the b.stop'

He still argues his sneezes are perfectly normal!

Every illness we can fight through, every daily struggle we stand strong against...but when he gets a cold, I could happily kill him!

Topseyt · 10/02/2020 23:14

I'm a bit of an explosive sneezer, though I do try to control it except if I am on my own. DH is also rather explosive.

It doesn't bother me really. Most of the time I don't even notice how other people sneeze.

xsquared · 10/02/2020 23:24

OP, my dh sneezes 5 or 6 times in a row and they could be loud. I usually wait until the fit is over to bless him.

Silvergreen · 11/02/2020 00:01

My mum sneezes like this; everyone including the cat just looks at her with pure hate 😂

ActualHornist · 11/02/2020 09:46

Sorry it’s so annoying but I don’t do it to be annoying? I do it because if I try and keep my sneeze small and internal it hurts Confused

There seems to be a lot of very strong feelings about sneezing! And not even because they’re not covering their nose and mouths!

Zaphodsotherhead · 11/02/2020 09:52

I sneeze, apparently, with a sound like 'a cat being sick'. So tiny tiny sneezes, and one of the DDs does almost silent sneezes which make her look as though she's having a kind of spasm.

They don't hurt. They are no less effective as sneezes as my late dad's, which were so loud he once made an entire cinema jump in unison (we heard all the chairs flap up and down and I laughed for about a week), although I do tend to do seven sneezes in a row and, apparently again, look as though I am fitting during the event.

My mum silent-sneezed. I think I learned from her.

chocolatemademefat · 11/02/2020 11:03

I attend a group a couple of times a week and one of the women there could wake the dead with her sneezes. And after she sneezes there’s a further production as if she’s just run a marathon - bending over panting and wheezing.

Makes me want to pummel her nose in with my fist. 😉

SerenDippitty · 11/02/2020 11:07

I’m the loud sneezer in my house and DH is the one who complains. I do try to warn him if a sneeze is on the way but don’t always get the words out in time.
