Cleaner

Please tell me if you think it's unreasonable to employ a cleaner to do the following - clean kitchen, bathroom and front room/dining area...not a deep clean just a once over, dust, Hoover, mop etc and to also ask her to put away my 2 children's clothes?

They will get a fixed rate a week and as long as it's all done I don't care how long it takes, can't see it taking over 2 hrs and I'm willing to pay the going rate, if not a bit more.

Is this something you think is acceptable?

I'm working full time, husband works away and I'm struggling 😩 xx

Cleaner here. That's a very basic request ime.. Your hair would curl some of the stuff I have done for customers!!

unorganisedmumoftwo · 10/02/2020 20:15

Really?! I thought I'd be asking far too much. I'm just really struggling to put the kids clothes away, we live out of ikea bags full of clean clothes 😂😂 at least they are clean I suppose lol. Thank you!

We are both retired. We have cleaners once every 4 weeks. it is brilliant to get the house cleaned for us. I sometimes think of changing to every 2 weeks as that would be even better. We tidy before they arrive and gradually our home is getting to be a better tidier place.
If you can afford a cleaner than go for it.

My tip is to have fewer clothes for the DC and 10 pairs each of the same socks (but different to each others)

When you wash the clothes put them on hangers to dry and then tumble pants and socks. Introduce your DC to matching and sorting the clothes out of the dryer and putting them away.

I found it easier to have fewer clothes that got washed and reworn without really getting put away... when on hangers they just go straight into wardrobe so much quicker.

But absolutely yes to cleaner if you can afford it.

I’ve had 3 cleaners recently. One was a really thorough cleaner, the other was primarily a sorter/tidier and the third, a bit so thorough cleaner. Our second lady would have loved doing the children’s clothes but I’m
not sure the other two wouldn’t have done it. I don’t know how unusual our second lady was but she was utterly brilliant. It also made me realise I didn’t really need a cleaner, I needed someone to tidy. By the time we had tidied for the cleaner, she had the easier job.

This is what my cleaner does, at the moment she’s also using the remainder of time for ironing my kids name tags into clothes for nursery. I cannot stress how much better life is. No longer do I spend my weekend trying to find time to clean, be cross the house is not clean or spend two hours putting kids clothes away. Do it! It’s saving my marriage and the house is tidier so I don’t have a massive tidy job day before she turns up . I’ve had the head space to tackle our problem areas as well.

unorganisedmumoftwo · 10/02/2020 21:43

Heart shaped sunglasses...that's what I'm hoping! I'm so stressed and overwhelmed that it's affecting all areas of my life and our marriage!! I think I'll go for it xx

Not unreasonable to get a cleaner to do all that. I don’t get mine to put away laundry (would rather do myself when it comes out of the dryer) but they do change the beds which is great! Depending on the size of your house you may struggle with the clothes as well as the cleaning in 2 hours but if you’re prepared to pay a bit more than the going rate for 2 hours then that’s fine! None of that is an unusual or unreasonable request.

Whynosnowyet · 10/02/2020 22:12

Interviewed one Friday, did an hours ironing while I was there.. Due to go the next Fri. Thursday night I get a message asking can I pack cases for a week's holiday for customer +his ds5?! Nearly 3 years ago...

Pipandmum · 10/02/2020 22:16

Seems totally reasonable. I don't have my cleaner fo any laundry or change beds. I prefer she do a thorough jobs on the bathrooms and kitchen. And I don't know anyone who doesn't tidy before their cleaner comes!

kerkyra · 10/02/2020 22:47

Cleaner here! I have six houses and each requires different things. Some I do ironing,Put a wash on,change the sheets.
Some love it if I have time to clean and sort the cupboards.
I've been with all of them for over four years and just do what I think,ie water plants and take the dead leaves off, clean windows, sort out under the stairs cupboards, wash the dog food bowels etc.
