I hate my job

I'm on the bus to work. I work flexi hours full time but should really be in the office by 0930. So I'm late.

I feel sick about going in every day, and often opt to work at home rather than come in. I am working well below my usual standard, and it's being noticed. I know IABU.

I'm actively applying for other jobs, but they all require at least a £12k pay cut as this one is unusual this area.

Help, what do I do? I can't just pull my socks up, I've tried that for months.

Obviosly you havent gone into detail about the paycut and what that would mean, but I retrained and took a £10K cut and I just stopped living the lifestyle I was

I can only relay my expereince, and I am a SAHM now

What do you hate about it

BuffaloCauliflower · 10/02/2020 10:17

What do you hate about it? Is it a recent change or have you felt this way for a while?

MamaGee09 · 10/02/2020 10:23

I used to love my job however the company are constantly penny pinching by cutting hours, cutting entertainment, changing contract but quite happy to spend money on flying managers to area meetings and spend endless money on posters to advertise .

It was really getting me down, I’ve cut hours so only work part time there as I’ve gone back to college taking a pay cut of£7000. We’ve tightened our belts and by June I’ll be qualified and be working elsewhere.

Sometimes we need to make sacrifices to make us happier, I’d rather be happy and poor than have money and be miserable. Do you need to stay in the same line of work?

What’s happened that’s making you not like your work?

CornishPorsche · 10/02/2020 11:09

I think I'm bored. I'm not interested in the work we do. No bullying or anything politically.

I'm privileged to be on £40k and in control of my time. There is a lot of lone working, and I think I'm lonely.

The office is crap, and makes me ill (massive migraines from appalling lighting). I've devoped chronic migraine, am having 40+ injections of Botox every 3 months through neurology to try to get out under control. I think it's partly stress related. I've never had them this bad before.

I think I also have compassion fatigue after 18+yrs of working in industries where I deal with dreadful things.

I'm looking at jobs between £21-28k on this area. Still good money, but a massive cut for me. We could survive it.

I hated my job.

I quit and became self-employed. I took a big pay-cut but now work from home and can pick and choose my jobs. DH earns plenty to support us so I'm very, very fortunate in that respect.

SingingLily · 10/02/2020 11:17

I certainly understand about compassion fatigue, OP. It is the thing that did for me in the end.

Have you thought about seeking help for this? One of its long term effects is that it massively reduces your tolerance for mundane work, plus you are probably missing the camaraderie that previously got you through.

Hope you find something soon.
