... to ask if anyone here has had success wth XLS Medical Extra Strength

Most of my adult life I weighed 8 to 8 and a half stone. At the onset of the menopause a gradually drifted up to 11 stone. About three years ago I started to diet and do more exericse and managed to get back down to 9 and a half stone and would dearly like to lose my muffin top and get back down to 9 stone. I think 8 and a half stone will be unttainable.

I've cut down to eating twice a day, around 12.30 and then about 6 in the evening. I'm still hungry when I have finished eating. I go to the gym for PT lead sessions twice a week, I do Pilates and Zumba, I horse ride twice a week, I walk one afternoon a week and go to a dance class once fortnight. I have not lost a single pound for 2 years now and I have had enough.

I don't know what else to do so am thinking of trying XLS but it is very expensive. If I thought it might work I will try it but don't know anyone IRL who has used it.

So, opinions please.

If you like shitting yourself in public then go for it

The side effect can be horrible apparently, so I would steer clear of it. No one needs that in their life.

Also the amount of weight their advertisements claim it helps you lose and the time scale they give for the loss of the weigh could easily be lost on a more pleasant, healthier diet.

Only eating twice a day is going to make you feel hungry and really shouldn't be necessary in order to lose weight, it's all about what you're eating rather than how often. Are you actually eating the right things?

I think I'd be joining something like weight watchers, or whatever they call themselves now, before I started using that XLS stuff; it sounds most unpleasant.

Babynut1 · 08/02/2020 17:39

I haven’t used XLS but I ordered some xenical online years ago, which is a similar type of thing (I think 🙈)

It did work but it was unpleasant at times. I remember eating tomato soup one day forgetting about the fat in it, and I literally pood the tomato soup out down the loo. You've really got to cut down the amount of fat as your poo just ends up all greasy and disgusting 🤢

OK. Sounds like something to avoid then! Glad I asked.

pigsDOfly. Lunch time usually something like 2 scrambled eggs on a slice of wholemeal, vegetable soup or a consome. Evening, grilled or roasted chicken breast or fish with vegetables, two or three baby potatoes. Don't have cake, biscuits or crisps in the house so I can't be tempted. DH moans like hell though.

All suggestions welcome.

Try a calorie counter like my fitness Pal, make sure you are reading enough, increase your protein, or try weight watchers or slimming world whichever suits you best

Doesn't sound as if you're over doing anything.

I had to amend my food intake a while ago because I wanted to bring down my cholesterol level; it's risen since I've got older.

I cut out all meat and like you eat no biscuits or cake. I cut out butter and only ever use a small amount of avocado oil if I need oil for something. Eat a lot of fish and fill up on vegetables. I also eat potatoes, bread and nuts and have porridge every morning for breakfast, which I couldn't do without.

I wasn't over weight but I lost a stone in a really short time. Having said that I think I'm someone who finds it easy to lose weight, I know it's not the same for everyone.

Tbh it sounds like you eat in a very similar way to me. Sorry I can't be more help. I hope you find something that works for you.

I've just discovered soya protein powder. Added a bit to yogurt this morning and I still wasn't hungry at lunchtime. Feels like a miracle.

MrsR2be

Thank you. I did use a calorie counter about a year ago. Was averaging 1,000-1,200 per day.

Joined WW two years ago with a friend who wanted to lose a similar amount. After two weeks she had lost 4lb, I had put 4lb on as I was eating so much more. I'm afraid I gave it up. I lost it when I went back to my normal diet but still couldn't get below 9 and half. Will maybe look to see if there is a Slimming World nearby to see if that suits better.

I am 67 and 5' 3" if that makes any difference.

Sorry but you’re not eating enough! I eat double what you do easily and have lost 3 stone since last September. Sounds like you’ve messed your metabolism up to be honest

MitziK · 08/02/2020 19:05

Is it possible that you have more muscle from all that exercise compared to when you were younger?

I can't see how, when your diet isn't full of high fat & carby 'junk' in the first place, there would be any point in taking something that is dependent upon you eating too much fat in your diet to work (whether by affecting absorption or just, which is what I suspect is behind the successes, by acting as aversion therapy to put people off eating pies and cakes).

Winterwoollies · 08/02/2020 22:06

I know someone who used it and leaked a pooey oil from her bottom. All the time. Awful.
