AIBU Induced Madness (Lighthearted)

Happy Saturday y'all :)

So, I have quite an intrusive internal monologue (and occasionally dialogue) at the best of times, but having lurked here for years and recently posted a wee bit, I now find that my thoughts are somewhat reminiscent of an AIBU thread......

For example, i will ponder some domestic issue and frame it to myself as "AIBU to think if my DP doesn't address his snoring then I would only get manslaughter if I smother him with a pillow tonight?" and then I give myself responses that snowball in the way threads develop - you know, someone will sympathise and offer under patio space, another response will be about medical issues that might cause snoring, etc etc. Sometimes it turns into quite a competition in my head to see how ludicrous the replies get, but it also helps because it means good ideas also pop up that are obviously deep within my subconscious......

My AIBU is "Is this U and am I on a slippery slope to Mumsnet induced madness, (MIMs) or does this happen in other people's heads?"

Oh, and just as a small disclaimer I have had a brief experience of psychosis, have many friends and family with MH issues and am genuinely not trying to be insensitive in any way!

If you have MIM, then so do I! Grin

Ditto, I have to try really hard not to refer to DH as DH out loud to, you know, real people 🤦‍♀️😂

@FuzzyAtmosphere Brilliant to hear I'm not alone :D

@ZigZagIntoTheBlue OMG yes - this!

Oh I do this but i think it’s quite good! Like you know what MN would say without needing to post, so you kind of go through the thought process yourself without needing to ask others. I think it’s just looking at the problem as though it was someone else’s.

OldQueen1969 · 08/02/2020 12:50

@Blackandgreenteas I think you're probably right there - it does help with objectivity and certainly stops me in my tracks when I realise I'm actually B Totally U !

It's a bit like WWJD but more like WWMD? Maybe we should get those wristbands LOL

No harm in using it as a thinking technique. There's a management thing where you solve a problem wearing different metaphorical hats that have different roles, to encourage you to think more widely. I think this is a bit like that.
