Last night a friend was dropping something she borrowed back to my house, she stated a time but that time came and went and so I completely forgot! I went to have a bath as it was 9.30, dh decided he would join me...fair enough! (Or so I thought)
So as we were in the bath, I get a text from friend, (about 9.45) saying “knocked but assumed you were in bed!” Left said item through letterbox”
I rang her this morning to say thanks and sorry as “ we were In the bath” - now I have to admit I forgot myself when I said “we” 🤣
She then replied...“oh no bother, God that was late for your dc to be awake”...I said no not dc...me and dh were in the bath!! She then gasped and said... “you take baths...together?” I said “yeah, it’s a lovely way to relax!!why not??” She laughed and said that it was a “tad strange but hey ho” Confused so AIBU? Is it odd, I was under the impression it was fairly average behaviour!!!

Not odd at all...really lovely.

But I would not want to picture someone I know doing this.

Vulpine · 08/02/2020 12:08

Having shared baths alot as a kid the though of sharing with anyone now gives me the heebie jeebies

Isadora2007 · 08/02/2020 12:09

It’s not odd but it’s not something I’d share about with a friend as it would be sexual for us- though our bath is too small so doesn’t happen unless away somewhere romantic. Also I do love a boiling hot bath!!! 🦞

combatbarbie · 08/02/2020 12:10

Strange... Nope! Especially when you have a standalone bath that requires a 2nd body to stop you drowning when laying down and drifting off Wink

GreenTulips · 08/02/2020 12:11

God no! DH wants like warm water - what a waste of a good bath.

username58788 · 08/02/2020 12:12

All I though was you must have a big bath , my dh is too big to have a bath comfortably so to add me too is also too small .tbh do want you want it's your house .

ShinyGiratina · 08/02/2020 12:12

Many years ago, DH and I put a new bath into our old house, chosing one with the taps in the middle so we could lie at either end... it became apparent on the first and only attempt that he is too long to lie in the bath, and the space is far too snug for both people to even think about relaxing. (Not that this seems to deter multiple children from gate crashing...)

Not particularly odd to do in itself, but not something logistically viable to many couples.

Shelby30 · 08/02/2020 12:13

We used to when we had no kids and a much bigger bath. It always lead to something else though so I would never admit to anyone that we had a bath together. In my head you don't just go in a bath together to wash 😂

PickleMyPepper · 08/02/2020 12:15

Not odd at all.
Me and DP share baths all the time, it's lovely.
It's not always a sexual thing either, sometimes it's just a nice way for us both to relax and spend some quiet, peaceful time together.

latheritup · 08/02/2020 12:15

Nope, I love sitting in the bath with my DP! Plenty of bubbles and a film on Smile

Lipperfromchipper · 08/02/2020 12:16

@Spam88 there was nothing sexual about it tbf...we always just haves good chat about things! 🤣

@MatildaTheCat it’s a bungalow so no upstairs but I know I could have been less informative 🙈

It's not having a bath together that's odd. It's telling her about it. It sounds like 'we were getting hot and steamy in the bath together 'ie you interrupted us having sex. Even if it was true, most people wouldn't say I didn't hear the door because I was having sex.

PickleMyPepper · 08/02/2020 12:16

Exactly @latheritup film on, candles, cup of tea or some wine.

The best.

AriadnesFilament · 08/02/2020 12:18

Not strange to do it.

Definitely strange to tell her, since for a lot of people it’s a step on the road to somewhere that your friend probably didn’t need any mental images of. I.e. “well, we were in the bath, if you know what I mean” waggle eyebrows, insert knowing looks. Because there’s in the bath where you both get in and have a bit of a chat and it’s just a nice sort of snuggly thing, akin to a bubbly sofa snuggle, and then there’s well, in the bath.

Based on her reaction, I’m assuming that for your friend, ‘in the bath’ means more towards the latter, and not the former.

🤷🏻‍♀️

Lipperfromchipper · 08/02/2020 12:20

@ShinyGiratina when we were ordering the bath we picked it based on the fact that we could get in together also!! YY to taps in the middle....also you cannot see the rest of the Bathroom from the bath...it’s bliss!

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 08/02/2020 12:20

It's a bit of an overshare given it's normally a sexual activity. I wouldn't just hop in the bath with my DH for us to have a good scrub.

This ^^
Like saying we were upstairs naked, stroking each other's wet body. TMI

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 08/02/2020 12:20

Each to their own I suppose! I wouldn't fancy it all - isn't it a bit embarrassing when you have to wash and clean your bits??

Thinkingabout1t · 08/02/2020 12:21

YANBU, we do the same and deliberately bought a big comfy bath for two!

FurrySlipperBoots · 08/02/2020 12:22
SunshineAngel · 08/02/2020 12:23

I think it's a lovely thing to do. Our bath is too small to do this, but when we're away in nice hotels and have a bigger bath, we absolutely do this! It's just nice to relax and chat, with a glass of bubbly if possible.

Lipperfromchipper · 08/02/2020 12:23

@MilkTrayLimeBarrel no!! The man has seen me birth two children, cleaning my bits is neither here nor there anymore!! 🤣🤣 and tbh I usually give myself a quick wash before he hops in or after he hops out...or whatever...I don’t really think about it Confused

We have a massive, double ended bath with taps in the middle and somewhere to put your wine glass, for this very reason Blush .... Not strange at all.

Thinkingabout1t · 08/02/2020 12:28

In my head you don't just go in a bath together to wash

Oh no, DH and I must be getting old ... Smile

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 08/02/2020 12:30

Not odd at all! We don’t do it at home as we don’t have a bath in “our” bathroom but when we go away we try to book somewhere with a large bath we can share.
