To leave the hob on whilst I go out?

Got to nip out in the next hour to get petrol and pick DP up from work. Probably will take me about an hour or so to pick him up and get back home depending on traffic.

I'm making a chicken rogan josh for tea and I want to leave it slow cooking for as long as possible but I'm worried about leaving it on it's own.

I find when I use tomato based sauces they get hot really fast and simmer so much that they start sticking to the bottom of my pan.

Would you leave it cooking or should I turn it off when I leave the house?

Maybe just do a makeshift pan-use an small baking tray, foil paper the bottom and put your curry in, then foil paper over the top. Put in the oven on a low heat.

Do you have a pyrex bowl with lid you could use?

GreyishDays · 07/02/2020 16:14

Just cook it now and when you get back. That should give it enough time?

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 07/02/2020 18:50

OP for the future TK Maxx does some great oven casserole pots for decent prices. Pretty much all my kitchen stuff is from there!

I do leave the hob on, but probably not with a curry or for that long. Would be oven or slow cooker

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 07/02/2020 18:53

Wouldn’t leave it on the hob or oven if no one in the house.

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 07/02/2020 18:58

Absolutely never leave the hob on and leave the house! I wouldn’t leave things in the oven either.
Mind you I don’t tend to leave the washing machine or dishwasher running either.
My mum left something on the stove when I was a child and we went to the supermarket. When we returned the kitchen was on fire.
I have witnessed a washing machine of someone in the neighbourhood on fire. Luckily they were at home when it happened and were able to call the fire brigade straight away so I think they managed to avert a house fire.
I am with the previous poster who said cook it now and finish cooking when back.

Sgtmajormummy · 07/02/2020 19:15

I locked myself out and the first thing the fire brigade asked was if I’d left anything cooking on the hob. Risk of boiling over, extinguishing the flame and subsequent gas leak/explosion. (BTW the second question was if there were vulnerable people locked inside.)
