WIBU to buy a dish washer?

DP is the designated washer upper in this house but he will leave the sink piled up for days before he gets around to doing anything about it.

We refitted our kitchen and I insisted on a dishwasher. It's only a small slimline one.

DP says I am replacing him Confused and is sort of upset. I pointed out that we have some things that need hand washing and he cheered up a bit at that.

I can't quite believe I'm having these conversations with him. I thought he was winding me up at first but he seems to genuinely want to wash up.

Was I being unreasonable to buy a dishwasher and effectively make DP redundant?

Anyone who could have a dishwasher but choses not to is completely ridiculous.

Someone still needs to load and unload the thing...

Christ don't get a vibrator - he'll have a breakdown.

Just explain to him about the level of pleasure to be achieved from loading it in the correct manner and then emptying it and putting everything away. He'll love it.

I would not/could not tolerate having dirty dishes sitting around in the sink for days; everything goes in the dishwasher immediately in my house.

I don't think having the dishwasher fitted would replace him, rather it would be him not washing up for days that would lead to the dishwasher being used.

Topseyt · 07/02/2020 13:27

Of course you get a dishwasher. You can designate the job of loading and unloading it to him if he really is that upset and grieving over the washing up being taken away.

Washing up left in the sink for days would drive me round the bend. At least if it is in the dishwasher you can't see it.

Once you have a dishwasher you will never go back. 😂

I get the rage if ours breaks! Hating pot washing.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 07/02/2020 13:30

Tell him he can come and do my washing up if he likes it so much Grin

NotMeNoNo · 07/02/2020 13:32

We had this, although to be fair DH is a efficient washer up and cleared it every night. He fussed about the dishwasher all the same, your replacing me etc. Took him about 2 weeks to settle into new role of Official Stacker And Proper Loader of the Dishwasher. Yanbu one bit.

squeekums · 07/02/2020 13:35

get the dishwasher. I still mourn the day mine died

Blackandgreenteas · 07/02/2020 13:39

Get a dishwasher. Give him another job.

Tbh I really hate unpacking mine, so that’s 11 yos job as part of earning pocket money.

Blackandgreenteas · 07/02/2020 13:39

I have a bad back though.
